since the verizon iphone is still behind on the ios which it has 4.2.8 instead of 4.3 will the verizon iphone get ios 5 while skipping 4.3 or will we get 4.3 while att gets ios 5

Probably going to get the 5.0 update. Verizon is on a lower update but it came included withthe features for the most part of ios 4.3.
A release date for iOS 5 has NOT been announced. There is a press event on October 4th. That is all. Noone with any knowledge of an actual release date can comment on it on these forums.
Matrix X2, They are not the same phone, they look the same, but have different baseband chipsets, the CDMA version is found to have a baseband chip that is capatible with GSM, while the GSM has a baseband chipset that is only capatible with GSM. The placement of the buttons on the side is slightly different too, earlier cases are not capatible with the CDMA iPhone. Also, I believe if you search the internet, you will find that the inside arrangement is slightly different.
picktown, it would be after the announcement at the earliest, but most likely that Thursday or Friday, based on Apple's usual schedule. (Typically it's a week after the Golden Master, I believe).
That or Verizon customers are getting screwed again (mid-cycle iPhone, not up-to-date OS) and Apple could be making some good money from some of the most loyal and patient customers (the reason why so few customers upgraded).
YES EVERYONE THE WAIT IS OVER! Verizon iPhone will be getting iOS 5; it was released yesterday. In fact, I have it on my Verizon iPhone right now. Go get it yourselves, but you have to update iTunes first!
