Authorising computers has got nothing to do with connecting devices - it is authorising the computer for your iTunes account, which you may or may not then connect an iOS device to. And no, there is no way to centrally check which computers are authorised for your account, it can only be individually for each computer in iTunes.

Lion with iTunes 11.0.5 and it's up to date...

In Account Summary it tells me I have 3 computers authorized but my only choice is Deauthorize All.

If it was done correctly, Apple might list the computers when I select Deauthorize All, but how is anyone supposed to figure that out without being the guinea pig?

And yes, there is no Manage Devices anywhere on the screen, and only "learn more" in "iTunes in the cloud" and that info is extremely unhelpful for managing devices.

Has anyone tried Deauthorize All and can tell us if individual computers are listed and if there is an option to not deauthorize any or all? (In case you change your mind.)

If you deauthorize all, it does exactly that, deauthorizes all the computers. True to what it claims to do, it doesn't offer you the ability to deauthorize individual computers. It doesn't list the computers.

It's not really a big deal. Once you've deauthorized all, you simply reauthorize the computers that you actualy use, which takes about 30 seconds. You don't lose any data.

Best of luck.

I'm very confused. My hard drive crashed - had to install a new one. Downloaded the newest version of itunes. I lost all the songs i had uploaded from CDs but I was able to retrieve my purchased songs but i cannot play them because the new hard drive is apparenlty not "authorized". However, all the suggested options for authorizing or unauthorizing computers are not available. When i sign into my account in the first section it says that "one computer is authorized etc..." There is no option to unauthorize the computer or add another one. In the itune store menu there is no "authorize this computer" option. Under the "cloud" section in my account there is no "manage devices" option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought songs on ITunes in good faith years ago on an email I have no recourse too, now I can't play them on a computer I have bought also in good faith only to have Apple say you are not authorised to play them . Sorry they are mine and the computer is mine so I assume by stopping me playing them you are thieving, and trespassing on my property

Can't wait until someone brings this to the European courts

If you want to play those songs on that computer then you will need to authorise the account that you bought them with. If you've forgotten your password to your account then what have you tried to get access to the account ? Do you remember the answers to your security questions or did you have a rescue email address on that account ? Have you tried http://iforgot.apple.com or contacting Support in your country : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 ?

If you do get access to it then change the email address on the account to one that you have access to.

Even though this was an old post it helped me out. When issues came up with authorized accounts being maxed at 5 you process did reduce the number and allowed me to add the new iPad. Not sure where the info came in earlier responses suggesting that updating OS created a new authorization. Perhaps that problem has been solved. Thanks again for the clear response.
