You should try restoring your iPod. Run the iPod software updater (I'd suggest using the previous version with 1.0 firmware - if you don't have it on your computer, you can find it on the CD that came with your iPod). Run it and plug in your iPod. Click the Restore button. Note that this will wipe out everything on your iPod!! Your music, videos and photos will be copied back again when you sync. Depending on how much music, video and photos you have, this can take quite a while. Next step? Wait for firmware 1.1.1. 🙂

Just thought I would report my situation:

I have a 60GB updated to 1.1. Windows XP SP2 and iTunes set to manually update.

I use Nero Recode 2 with the "portable" profile to convert all of my video to MP4.

I didn't experience any problems before updating to 1.1 nor do I now.

The backlight issue to me is a matter of preference. I believe that the change was intentional and my preference is the way it operates under 1.1.

So I am happy with the update and have no issues with audio or video.

I get the occaisonal hardware reset, usually when I am watching video's, but also during music playback as well sometimes. I thought upgrading to 1.1 would fix it, but then some of my videos would not play with audio like the problems everyone else is having.

I also had a weird thing happen with 1.1 when I put my ipod in my xitel dock the screen turned a purple colour, but not like it was broken, more like when you select text. I have my text select colour set to purple on my mac and the screen went the same colour!

So anyway I am back to 1.0, and still with the annoying resets.

Just to clarify for everyone (I've been following
this since late Tuesday night over on the iLounge
forum):

1) The bug with video being mentioned does not show
up on the 30GB model. Out of the 22 page thread on
iLounge, one person said he had a problem with video,
but that was there with the 1.0 firmware too for him....

4) All content encoded via Quicktime,iTunes, or from
the iTunes store work fine still.

I have news for ya...I have the 30GB and use iTunes to encode all my videos....they worked fine before the update, now I have video with no sound........
This is a bummer.

Be safe, DON'T Update. I had been reading these updates with good and bad responses and tried to take the dive into 1.1 not getting any of the major problems like the others, just little ones like click wheel makes sound after turning iPod off. iPod always says do not disconnect I have to manually eject iPod as if I was set to manually update. Trying to make the decision to see if Apple is speedy on the recovery or if I will go back to 1.0 world.

Save yourself some trouble, update does not provide benefit that I can see right now.

Help Apple!!!
