Cannot email from from iphoto

I used to be able to email from within iPhoto with no problems. My latest macbook Pro came with iPhoto 11 installed.

I have tried to email photos from within iPhoto 11 with no success. All of my email accounts are working fine, when I try to mail within iPhoto I get the error message that my email server did not reply. I am frustrated with this as it all worked perfectly before.

Any answers please?

Thanks 🙂

You did not mention that you had done this, so if you have not.....

Open iPhoto

Click the iPhoto menu in the upper left hand corner of the screen

Click Preferences

Click the General tab

Next to "Email photos using"......have you selected the mail application that you want to use?

Click the Accounts tab to verify that the settings for your mail application are entered here.

I'm having the exact same problem using a new MBP, running OS 10.8 and iPhoto version 9.4. I have double-checked my email settings, even deleted my accounts and created them again withing iPhoto. Nothing will do. I keep getting the "Your message did not go through because the server did not reply" error message. I've tried using both my Gmail account and my me.com account. No luck in either case. What's up Apple?

Yep, having the same / similar issue.

Although, mine says 'sent' from within iPhoto (and yes, I send to myself as well), all the right noises are made, everything looks fine, but nothing happens.

No mails are sent, no-one receives anything.

What now?

And thanks LarryHN for saying 'then it has to work' - yes, all the boxes you mentioned (and more) are checked, and yet, it doesn't work. Can someone please, please tell me how one contacts Apple to ask these questions? For a company so theoretically proud of their customer support, they are impossible to get hold of.

When emailing photos using iPhoto, you are not logging into the mail server to send your mail, you are logging into the iCloud server to send your mail (that's why you won't see a copy in the sent mailbox of your client). You need to use your iCloud password, when selecting to email photos using iPhoto. If you select email photos using Mail, then use the same email password you use with your mail client.

that is not corect - you are logging into the email server tha tyou specify in the preferences - it might be iCLoud - it might be a different service

The solution to the OP's issue is to have the correct information entered for their account -- or to switch to using Mail as the email client
