512x512 icons

Hi,

One of my favourite feature in Snow Leopard is the way you could see icons, in the icon view, with that I don't need a gallery software to navigate through my photos and images. In the pass I create icons for most of my documents, but now with the new icon view, old icons are not show properly because they are to small, because my computer is so fast, I simply removed them and let the OS take care of showing icons.

But I have a little problem; I do a lot of 3D images and often use HDR images as light source, these HDR images are most of the time huge; 3000x1500 pixels, 32 bits, around 15 meg each, because of there size it take unacceptable time to show the icons. it's easy to create icon for them with "Preview" and "get info" but it take lot of time and I have hundred of these. All the softwares I tested can't generate 512x512 icons, I can build a catalog but it's not really practical.

Is one of you know a way to create automatically 512x512 icons for a lot of images? I tried Automator but I don't really know this software and I don't have the knowledge, the interest or the time to play with it…

Thanks,

Luc

The easiest way to do that would be Automator. Clearly, IF you do not have the knowledge, the interest or the time, there is always a quick search on google 😊 :

Then there are apps such as Graphic Converter that do batch convert for you : http://www.lemkesoft.com/content/188/graphicconverter.html

May be I'm not clear enough, English is not my natural language, what I want is to add an icon to my image file, this way it show instantly when you open a folder in icon view. I know a way to do it; open the image in preview, select all and copy, you now have your image in the clipboard, get info on the image select the small icon on the upper left corner of the get info window and paste your image in the clipboard in that icon, you now have a full 512x512 icon associate to your image. The problem is that all these actions take time to do and I have hundred images.

The version of GraphicConverter I have do not put icon bigger than 128x128 same thing for all the software I tried except for ImageViewer, this one can create a 256x256 icon.

I give an other try to Automator, never find a way to make a get info in the workflow, playing with it end up in loosing control of my mouse and keyboard, not be able to do force quit or anything, I need to shut down my computer with the power switch, because of that, I lost 12 hours of render on a big 3D render that run in background ^$#^%)(*&#!
