Cats lick iPhone sync cable

I have several USB cables hanging near my desk from a hub. Both of my cats will consistently lick the white iPhone sync cable, and ignore the others. I know this is not the most pressing issue iPhone users face, but it's so bizarre that I was wondering if anyone else had experienced it with their cats. It's too bad it's not the ethernet cable, because I could understand their licking CAT5. Sorry for the pun, but this is an actual question I'm asking.

Thanks.

my cat does the same thing. it is only the white ipod/iphone cable. she seemed interested in the cable to my mac computer for a while but it's mainly the iphone one. i had taken it away and replaced it with a black griffin brand one, and that worked ok and she didn't like it, but then i couldn't sync my iphone or charge it right when i got my new mac computer. so i switched back and now she's back to licking it, which is really annoying (last night i was woken up at 5 am by this). i agree that it's not so pressing to apple i'm sure, but i'm wondering if they coat that particular cable with something. it does have a different texture than the computer cords. i seriously doubt it's the color of the cable. it would be nice if they do coat it with something, if they would stop, so we don't have the added stress of our cats electrocuting themselves by licking or chewing through the wires...

My male cat also loves to lick the white iphone cord. I used to think it was because of a current running through it, but I found that he continued licking it whether it was plugged in or not. It's very odd since he doesn't have an affinity for any other electrical cables, as I've read many cats often do. There don't seem to be any postings specifically addressing this phenomenon, so if anyone has come up with a theory or has their own experience with this, It would be interesting to read about it.

I can't help but think that the type of rubber material used to coat the Apple cords is apopealing to cats in taste or smell. Like in the previous post, my cat does this in the mornings, relentlessly purring and licking, whcih makes for an annoying way to be woken up.

Dear Diary,

Today, my pretty little eye caught this gorgeous white USB cable. How do I know it is a USB cable? Because I am a cat, that is smart, and beautiful! Anyways, I was intrigued by the fact that there was a fruit on one of the ends of the cable! But on the other...was a mysterious pin connector. I didn't know what it did, so I did what any other intelligent cat would do, lick it! I licked it after clearing my body of static electricity, and it tasted great! I'm not really sure why, but for the first time, my owner has made me happy! He should leave these cables around more often. Maybe, if I chew on it, he will have to keep buying new ones for me to lick! If he was smart, he would stop leaving his electronic things lying around. What a dumb person. He will never be as smart as me.
