iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

I've had the original iPad for several months now, and it has been working fine. However, yesterday, the iPad was dropped (a couple of inches from the ground), and now the background screen is red. You can still see the icons and the iPad remains fully functional, except for the red discoloration in the background. For example, when you play a video, the letterbox is now red instead of black.

Has anyone experienced this before? I've synced it, but no effect. Don't want to try a full restore unless it's absolutely necessary. I've read on the net that it may be corrected over time?

Thanks in advance.

I went to unlock my IPad and saw that it had a funny red tinge, so I shut it down and the rebooted it but nothing happened. In the end, I searched the Internet and found this. You guys literally saved my life, my mum would have been super annoyed because I have to use this iPad most days. Although I did have to carry on whacking its back for about 5 minutes and my hand turned red, these tips eventually payed off and now my iPad is back to normal.

This is really unbelievable. I have been having this problem for over two years and just resigned myself to the fact that I just need to get an upgrade and do away with this iPad 1. Then I found this thread and I am so elated that after 5 firm whacks, that dreadful red background was gone!!! I can't tell you how grateful I am for this quick fix. It still works even 5 years later after this thread started *thumbs up*
