iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Omg I cannot believe this worked. My mom told me to look up our problem and she asked what made this happen and i told her oh he dropped it and then she asked me how did he fix it and laughed should we drop it again and i was like yeah. Well slap the back of it. And sure enough it worked. Thanks a lot!!

I Dripped my iPad and it had a red screen for a while, I tried the slapping tip but that has only got rid of the red screen and now it only flashes my lock screen up for a second before going black and I can't do anything on it now! Is there anyway to save it???

Try a reset. Press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release boh buttons. Wait until your iPad hopefully starts on it's own.

If the reset doesn't work it's time for a trip to the Apple Store to have your iPad checked out.

wow. I had dropped my iPad on the carpet and got left with a screen that opnly showed blue and pink until I tried your remedy.. and it worked! Thanks!

Thank you so much for the tip!!!!!!! My iPad2 dropped on the asphalt at school a few days ago, and when I opened it up, I got really worried because the screen was all red. But, today I found this website and tapped the back of my iPad, nothing happened. I kept trying and it didn't work. Then, I tried slapping the back, then BOOM!!!!!! it was back to normal. Again, thank you so much for helping me. I really appreciate it.😉

My iPad 2 display turned pink and fuzzy after getting roughed up in the overhead bin of an airplane (note to self not to store it there again!). After reading many of the responses I locked the screen and slapped the back several times to no avail. I then dropped it about 12 inches onto a carpeted floor and bingo! It worked! Thanks to all of the helpful advice on this forum 🙂

Excellent advice. This happened to a friend of mine, I showed him the discussions and he tried it in front of a friend of mine and myself.

It was more like ' burping a baby' or giving a 'slap on the butt' of a petulant child. Sure enough the iPad came to its senses and worked beautifully.

OMG, it's funny, but it worked. my iPad was gone red too. Then I raised the iPad about two feet up from the floor and dropped it down, repeated twice and I rurned on the iPad it was perfectly all right.😁

After a bad day, involving a fruitless discussion of chevrons and the like, my flatmate dropped her iPad. A few tears and a chocolate soya milk later, all hope was lost. Then I searched for "iPad red screen, clumsy" and came across this thread. Suffice to say, she is now happy, nay, ecstatic. Bash the ******.

Just wanted to let Jim71 and everyone else with the same concerns that his suggested fix is still good 5.5 years later. I have a IPad 2 with an Otterbox case that was not dropped but squeezed between a couple of books in a backpack flying from Washington State to Japan and back again that developed a wispy reddish to pinkish reticulated (web-like) pattern mixed in with the normal bluish background. I moderate tap on the back is what it took to dislodge the foreign body from the IPad screen! 🙂 Thanks again for this original post.

So this is more or less a permanent fix providing one is careful with the iPad going forward?

The reason I ask is that I've just successfully slapped 2 school iPad2s back into service and want to get a feel for if they'll hold up. FWIW, they'll both be in OtterBox type cases when they go back out, and one will go to a teacher but the other will go back to the First Grade iPad pool. What do you reckon the chances are?

I'm now 4 for 4, but I needed to find a new technique for the two where slapping until my left hand went numb didn't work:

Take the iPad and hold it an inch or two above a hard surface, like a table-top or desk, so that the long edge closest to the headphone jack is parallel to the table's surface. Then bang that edge of the ipad semi-gently against the table top repeatedly until the picture clears.

O..M..G!! My daughter dropped her iPad over a year ago. I didn't know until last August that is wasn't working so I bought her a new one for her birthday (mostly because she was moving overseas to teach and I wanted a way to FaceTime with her!) I found her old one in our car, as we were going to drop it off at Best Buy to have them dispose of it. I figured I give it one more try and plugged it in. It was displaying the red screen, so now I was able to research and found this forum. THANK GOODNESS we didn't turn it in to Best Buy! It's working! I was able to first return all the the apps but there was an annoying reddish background. After chatting with my daughter and finding out exactly where she drop it (near the power cord input) I gave it few more slaps on that end and no more red!! I was going to buy my other daughter an iPad mini for xmas as her iPad is definitely on it's last leg! Just save a few hundred $$!! Thank you again for all the advice on this forum!! 🙂

Thank you, too! I didn't believe this would word. My IPad2 fell off the table on to a carpeted but hard floor, went all fuzzy. Smacking it did not work but bouncing on the corner that I believed hit the ground worked. So, thank you very much.

I read this and thought I was probably wasting my time, but I slapped the back of the iPad maybe seven or eight times and poof! It worked. It looks fine now. Thanks for suggesting it. Apple wasn't too likely to help, since I've had this iPad for over four years. I was really depressed about it breaking because I use it every day. All better! Thanks again.
