I'm looking for an Applescript line, system file, Terminal command, anything, that would give me a list of file extensions recognized by default, by the OS. I'm rewriting a file extension change script, and was wondering if I could auto populate the list of potential extensions with something already in the system. Thanks!

You'll have to figure out how to parse it, but this will dump the whole thing:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -dumpI don't know if that's the only way, but its what I thought of.
You can see what other options lsregister will take by just running lsregister without any options, but nothing else caught my eye.
You might try searching the Launch Services sections in the Apple Developer Center. There might be some other commands that might make it simpler.
You might also take a look at the Uniform Type Identifiers Reference.
