Do you have a 32 bit or a 64 bit system?

You have to look in different palces depedning on which you have.

For 32 bit, look in C:\Windows\System32

For 64 bit look in C:|Windows\SysWOW64

Look for files and folders with Quicktime in the name.

There should be exactly two Quicktime files and no folders:
Quicktime.qts

QuicktimeVR.qtx

In Windows 7 you can type Quicktime into the search box, I think you can do the same in Vista.

Do you have an additional files or folders?

I have a 32 bit system.

I have the following list of files in C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime directory (only files, no directories)

  • CFCharacterSetBitmaps.bitmap
  • CFUniCharPropertyDatabase.data
  • CFUnicodeData-B.mapping
  • CFUnicodeData-L.mapping
  • QuickTime3GPP.qtx
  • QuickTimeAuthoring.qtx
  • QuickTimeCapture.qtx
  • QuickTimeEffects.qtx
  • QuickTimeEssentials.qtx
  • QuickTimeImage.qtx
  • QuickTimeInternetExtras.qtx
  • QuickTimeMPEG.qtx
  • QuickTimeMPEG4.qtx
  • QuickTimeMPEG4Authoring.qtx
  • QuickTimeMusic.qtx
  • QuickTimeStreaming.qtx
  • QuickTimeStreamingAuthoring.qtx
  • QuickTimeStreamingExtras.qtx
  • QuickTimeVRAuthoring.qtx
  • QuickTimeWebHelper.qtx

You misunderstood me.

You should look in C:\Windows\System32

NOT C:\Windows\System32\Quicktime.

There should not be a Quicktime folder in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

What Quicktime files do you have? There should only be the two files I listed in my previous post.

You have already told me there is a Quicktime folder which should not be there.

Quick.ime is OK, it's nothing to do with Quicktime.

Now Drag all the files with QuickTime in the name except the two I mentioned, and the Quicktime folder out of you system32 folder to a temporary folder or your desktop.

You should be left with just:

Quicktime.qts

QuicktimeVR.qtx

Does iTunes start now?

If so you can delete the stuff you dragged out.
