iChat connection problems

I have a recent iMac and MacBook Pro. The MacBook has no problem connecting to buddies on iChat (all of whom, including me, are Mac.com/Me.com clients), but the iMac never connects. I mention this to suggest that it doesn't seem to be an issue with my router/modem. I've checked the server settings in the preferences on both the machines, and they look identical. Also identical are the firewall settings and the file sharing settings. Any ideas why the desktop cannot connect?

Hi,

This log obviously details the Screen Name at the Log end of this connection attempt.

What does the other end's Log say ?

Port Mapping Protocol only needs to be Enabled.

It does not need s Host machine to be listed as you want it to work for both your computers.

I understand that the DNS servers info is in both the Ethernet and WiFi parts of System Preferences > Network.

What I am not sure about is if you intend using Ethernet that the Airport Card is turned Off or if using WiFi/Airport the Ethernet Cable i unplugged.

Comcast don't like Peer-to-Peer Connections.

They actively manage the Bandwidth you get (your Internet Speed) if they think they detect that you are doing P2P file Sharing.

Potentially there is enough data in a video Stream in iChat that you can look like P2P File Sharing.

This would be complicated by the fact both computers are behind your Modem/router set up.

It is strange though that you don't even seem to get to that stage.

To eliminate any "double whammy" issues with the Internet/Bandwidth speeds can either machine reach the Buddies listed in Table 1 ?

I checked the error log on the MacBook Pro, and it had much more information, which I will post below. The MBP is the one that is able to iChat with external computers, while the iMac with the less informative error log is the one that is having connection problems. I have highlighted the lines involved again.

From that paragraph you have this one line:-

Which in some of the "Repeats" looks like this:-

There are tw things about this.

It should show the Shortname if the Mac User Account that is logged in on this computer.

The IP 4 and IP 6 bits refer to the computer using either IPv4 or IPv6 as seen in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP tab

It should be one or the other and it shuld not change like this.

Now, IF, the connection Process was further along then that line would detail both the Buddy's Screen Name and their Shortname (I am wondering if you are in fact scottromans on both computers).

There are two other bits of info that don't seem to add up.

First this

The First says the SIP port part failed. (Huhhh ?? They are on the same router)

The Second is getting feedback about what the router's Cone Method is and reports "Bad Test" (Again Huhhh ??? as it is the same router.

Steps.

Double Check Port Mapping Protocol is on in the Repalcement Airport Base station.

On both computers in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP Tab turn Off IPv6

If there is a similar setting on the Airport Base Station also turn it Off there.

I've double checked and the "Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol" checkbox is checked. I've also turned off the IPv6 option for the AirPort on both machines and for the Ethernet on the iMac. Then I unplugged the Ethernet from the iMac to make sure both machines are connecting via AirPort. I've looked all through the AirPort, and there doesn't seem to be a place to turn off the IPv6 there.

On the contact testers, I get good results on my MBP: I see the videos for all of the accounts except two: appleu3test02@mac.com goes offline after I try to establish contact, and appleu3test02@mac.com seems to be offline all the time.

On the iMac, the experience is similar to what happens when I try to chat with my laptop: the preview video screen comes up with the message "Starting video chat with: appleu3..." but the dial just keeps spinning and I never make contact.

This is consistent with everything else I've been experiencing: the MBP is able to make contact with external buddies, but my iMac is not.
