Downloading iBooks 1.3 "Unknown error has occurred"

I just received my IPad 2 yesterday as a gift. One of my first priorities was downloading ibooks, but I keep getting an "unknown error has occurred" dialogue box. I can download other apps without issue and I have reset the iPad numerous times but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Are there any solutions? Please don't tell me I have to go buy regular books again.

Found a little workaround...

Since my iPad is running 4.3.3 and has the "Purchased" section in the App Store I figured I could just purchase it using iTunes on the computer and then access it there.

So after I went into the iTunes Store on the computer, bought it there; I was able to download it on the iPad just fine from that purchased section.

You may want to go to the Settings app on your iPad and go to the Store app and open it. Check Automatic Downloads and turn it to on. Mine was in the off position I tried to download it on the ipad first and got the error. Read about downloading it first to my computer and went that route. I had to confirm my billing information. It downloaded and then I had to look in my apps on my computer and found I had it. That is when I went to Settings App on my iPad2 (that I just got and am apple novice). Good luck.

Fixed!!--Same error issue. New iPad2 this Wednesday (6/15/11). Tried the 'Automatic Downloads' setting--no change, but tried hooking up to the laptop (already had latest iTunes loaded before my iPad2 came), iTunes started up, went to Apple iStore, login, confirm payment, try to download 'iBooks' it says I already have it. Look at the iPad and it's there.

This fix took all of 3-minutes and all is good. Now to learn to move things around. Newbie here🙂 Thanks to the forum for tips on things to try. I need to go back through documentation to see why I had such a problem. Not exactly plug-n-play, but then again, I fighting the urge to 'right-click'. 😁 Love the iPad2 so far. My first Apple-anything.

I was having the same problem. Additionally, I received other errors on my iPad. When I purchased it, and turned it on it prompted me to connect to iTunes and set it up. Some people's came working out of the box, but mine had nothing set up on it. I plugged it in, and set it up like I would have done my iPhone.

Then I tried to install iBooks on the iPad itself and got the errors. After three days my patience has boiled over. After reading the top of this thread 15 minutes ago, I reset my iPad to factory. When that was done, I installed iBooks just fine. I was now able to "restore iPad" to my previous profile (which I chose not to do).

I'm sure you won't want to do this (I didn't) but when you get it out of the box and it shows that it has to be connected to iTunes to be used... I think that's the problem. Or perhaps this thread garnered enough attention that whatever bug there was got fixed, if only you're willing to reset.

Good luck!
