The camera kit has nothing to do with Mac or Windows. It just lets you move pics from a camera or SD card to the iPad.
It works on the iPad, but you can then copy them from the iPad to your PC (I've done so) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 (CCK photos are transferred off in the same way as photos taken with the iPad)
just bought the camera kit - don't waste your money it is rubbish, does nothing unless your camera apparently puts files into dcim! great thanks apple again, when will apple stop being so arrogant and let you actually use the iPad to it's potential, all I wanted to do was scan onto a card in my printer then copy the files so paperwork is on my iPad? but to apple I am a criminal wanting to hack at apples soul and upload viruses or steal software. - very display
appointed....again!
I'm curious, what camera doesn't put pic files in a DCIM folder?
Oh, you're using a scanner as the source. Doesn't the camera connection kit info mention just cameras?
He's posted his rant on numerous threads - obviously thought it was a scanner connection kit.
sorry for trying to actually use my iPad! told them in the shop what I wanted to do, obviously they werent listening in apple style too busy looking at my credit card!
ok mr sheep!
The kit works as designed, maybe the Apple staff misunderstood what you were asking or didn't fully understand how it works his/herself - either way coming on here and posting like you did on multiple threads isn't going to solve anything. Have you been back to the store to see if you can get a refund for the kit ?
But for info you don't have to use a camera to create the pictures on the card, you can also copy pictures via your computer onto it, as long as you create a DCIM directory off its root, with the pictures underneath with 8 character filenames (no spaces) plus their extension i.e. the standard DCIM format. But as the kit is designed for use with cameras it will only work with images and videos, not documents/PDFs etc.
If you want scanned images/documents on the iPad then there are other ways of getting them there (e.g. syncing, using one of the apps that support wifi transfer from your computer to the iPad, the file sharing section of the device's apps tab, emailing them to yourself as attachments, Dropbox etc.) depending on what apps you've got on your iPad.
it's just a waste of money! I get sick and tired of apple dictating to their customers! with everything the iPad is an amazing bit of kit and could do so much more I am constantly having to find ways around apples arrogance! the kit is more than capable of being able to browse a location, I use file browser to connect to the printer via the network and copy to drop box, why can't this read from the card! because ple don't want you to! doesn't matter anyway, they will take this post off, heaven forbid someone might disagree with Apple! apple are only where they are through the lack of effort of the other manufacturers to produce something worth having! whilst there is no real alternative apple will reign!
It works brilliantly for me. I've transferred pictures from both my iPhone and from my Sony and Canon point and shoot cameras. Combined with a photo editing app like Photogene, it's extremely useful. I recommend highly recommend it.
Take a deep breath... count to ten.... read the features and specs of hardware you intend to buy...
