Is there such a program as MacKeeper

Then how do you explain the problems that all of the users who purchased MacKeeper and were suffering the same or worst problems. From what I have seen of MacKeeper, I don't trust any of it at all and that includes both the demo and the purchased version.

If you want to know what in my opinion is the most evil that is the uninstaller provide by Zeobit. The use of it really does harm to the Mac operating system. One user I was helping had tried it before speaking to me and I was forced to do an erase & install to get rid of all the problems that the Zeobit uninstaller caused.

And he is very probably right about the zeobit uninstaller too.

And BEWARE: they also advertise/sell under the "911-bundle" name !!!!

Not entirely. I have it on good authority that IDG pursued a certain subset of vendors and did turn down some they felt would not fit their model.

I suppose you could be correct and since I never was willing to install it to check out my theories, I can't say for certain. My theory is that the thousands of files that fill up MacKeeper user's hard drives are items rescued from their trash.

My Mac guru told me to use MacKeeper to improve performance. Although it did clean up lots of old files, (I trust that is a good thing), it slowed down my computer, and the AV function took days - days - and still it wasn't finished. My Mac just got slower.

I took it to the Genius Bar, they removed it, and things are better.

When I tried to get refund from MacKeeper = Forget it. I gave up.

its a killer malware (malicious software) and trojan program and floods your mac with viruses. also, its a scam. it appears good in the website but when youdownload you notice youve been tricked to download a rouge antivirus like spysherrif for windows you get the demo version when you download it and floods your computer with spyware (another species of malware) that might install other spyware (the worst effect) or trojans (worst type of viruses) and then changes your desktop to a warning message to turn off your computer until spysherrif is deleted. if i get a message tricking to me to play UTIII and it was spysherrif id look for activation code on youtube and delete them. this is how spysherrif becomes legimate. there is no way to make mackeeper legimate. i guess i will be happy since i dont have a mac😁 but alert people use it if you only dont like your pc/mac⚠.➕ if you get a lot of malware programs you can get rid of it or delete its components. hope this solved your question!

The venom and dedication of some of the detractors of this program is beyond my experience in any other situation. All I can say is I have the paid versions and use them on 3 different Macs without trouble. One difference may be that I do not leave the program open or opt for "real time protection". I wouldn't do that with any other anti-viral program either. But it has not filled up my computers, slowed them down or done anything else undesirable.

I expect all sorts of hostile replies to this from the same little crowd but I won't be reading them since I am not as emotional as they are on this subject and will not patrol here for further comments as they do. I just thought it was once again time to say that whatever their issue is, it is not my experience.

Hello, thanks for the input/post, but I think it's not a matter of how many times you can cross the street without looking & not get run over, but how many people do get run over! 😉

ONCE AGAIN - the virus is directed at people who DON'T buy their software. If you bought it, it is not AIMED at YOU - but how do you like doing business with a company that bullies people into buying their product to avoid being targed by malware?

Keryn, first of all, the rubbishware called Mackeeper or 911bundle is doing harm to most users , paid or not.

Secondly it is not a virus, it is worse. Read this thread, read a lot of other threads.

Preaching to the choir here, Lex. I was trying to explain to the guy why it might not have affected HIS computer (to his knowldege).

Surely there would be no profit in it for the vile scoundrels - other than the sheer delight of wrecking people's computers - if the software didn't work SOMETIMES, if only so that people like the ChiliEater here could rave about it.

Nobody works that hard for NO profit - it just wouldn't make any sense. Obviously it must work sometimes, or nobody would use it, and EVERYONE would agree on its status as malware. Chili is just one of the lucky ones. He shouldn't assume the the snake is safe just because it does not yet appear to have bitten him.

I wonder why APPLE is so quiet about this - you'd think they'd be out there warning loyal customers about this vile company!!

Hi Keryn, (from The Golden Valley?) these guys who "did not have a problem" or "did really get a refund" are probably Zeobit people or paid by them.

Their profit is not in selling their product: they scam and sell the info that they collect. This brings much more than selling their product.

Well - from the (How Green Was My) Valley, for sure! I didn't realize that, about selling information.

All in know is that it's a foul thing, and it creeps up in all kinds of weird places, with pop-up windows you can't close, short of force-quitting the application. The pop up appears sporting an OK button you DARE not click.

With the Golden Valley I meant the Wye valley: I have been there several times years ago to visit my sister who was living there then, near Hay on Wye. Wonderful country.

Apple is even allowing it in Appstore (911bundle), that is not a "promotion" as some say, but only means that it is complying with the Apple rules for programming and selling in the Appstore.

There are so many threads in all kinds of forums about this crapware that nobody sane would ever install it I guess. But probably with Gatekeeper in Mountain Lion it will disappear from the Appstore (I hope so).

BTW, Adblock (Safari plugin) and Glimmerblocker (Proxy filter), stop most of the ads, but not all.

I even saw it on Speedtest.net and wrote them a message about it.

I also have to agree with ChileEater on his point made. I've been using Mackeeper for about 1 1/2 years now with no notice as to a slowdown in performance.

My first year was on an old Quicksilver 2002 and I liked it. It helped clear off about 1.5 GB of junk from it and I never experienced any space being taken up from using it.

I now have a 6 month old Mac Pro that it is on and use it in the same way with no "known" issues yet!
