Error 7 (Windows Error 14001)

Neither iTunes nor QuickTime work. My computer restarted one night due to some error and since then I get an "Error 7 (Windows Error 14001)" error. I have Win 7 64bit and iTunes 10. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, I've downloaded and installed the .net framework and C++ stuff I've seen in other threads on the issue, none of it helps. When I try to reinstall, it fails and tells me I don't have the permission. Thing is this is MY computer and I'm the only user, so I'm the administrator.

I'm having the same issues. When I download iTunes & try to open it, and error pops up that says "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 14001)" I tried uninstalling & reinstalling at least 12 times, nothing changed. I've tried calling Apple and they told me it was a Windows issue that they can't help with. I tried to find the Windows number and it asked for my credit card number because my service required payment so I just didn't do it. I tried running the CCCleaner before & after reinstalling iTunes but iTunes still didn't work. I've been downloading the recommended iTunes for my computer, which I found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1047 but it doesn't work. I've tried installing an older version of iTunes but the same thing happens; error message. I tried fixing my .Net framework with a program on the Apple site, NOTHING HAS WORKED.

So as you can see, I've tried ALOT of stuff. Is there any simple, FREE way to fix this problem?!

And to top it all off, since my iPod touch is brand new it won't do ANYTHING until I have iTunes installed & working. It shows a USB cord and an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. When I plug it into my computer nothing happens and the screen remains, it won't let me do anything.

Please, please help me!

Thanks, Jess

I too have this same problem. I've been having it since some time in June.

Whenever I open iTunes I get the error:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.

Error 7 (Windows error 14001)

>OK

Sometimes I get two of them.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes in every way, getting rid of everything apple related in the registry and all.

I have used CCleaner, which by the way detected a TON of errors in the registry related to the Visual C++ stuff.

I continuously have a system update for some Security Update for Visual C++.

Details are:

Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538242)

Download size: 2.6 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

A security issue has been identified leading to MFC application vulnerability in DLL planting due to MFC not specifying the full path to system/localization DLLs. You can protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

No matter how many times I instal it, it is always there.

Seeing as Apple so far has no solution for this, and the given evidence from the Visual C++ update, this is probably a Microsoft problem. Which is just great because they don't have much reason to fix a problem with iTunes.

My biggest problem is just that I just cannot sync my iPod anymore though. Which is annoying because for some while it has been not working very well and I wanted to restore it to a blank copy.

Same here! Same Updates! omg, I really am getting fed up with this crap. Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection wouldn't install either saying something about MS Visual C++. And now iTunes. To tell you the truth, I installed the 10.5 beta 5 and it said it didn't install because again of MS Visual C++. And then I uninstalled it and Installed the Release version and this comes up. Also the error is a bit different, iTunes works it's just when I plug in my iPhone it says this "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I tried starting the Apple Mobile Device service and thats where I get the Error code 14001. Really annoying. If you find anything please post I would love to solve this problem and the many others on my computer without reinstalling windows.

I began having this exact problem like everyone else in June. I have tried all the fixes recommended with no success. I have tried contacting Apple support but all they do is send me emails with links to the things I have already tried. Customer support by Apple on this issue is pathetic.

If anyone from Apple monitors these posts, PLEASE HELP US SOLVE THIS PROBLEM !

So it turns out it's DEFINITELY a Windows problem, NOT an Apple issue. Gateway tried to tell me my hard drive was faulty. It wasn't, Windows was. I did a fresh install of Windows and now everything works (even the Microsoft update I previously spoke of). In my case, though, I had to do a FULL reinstall to factory settings, not the one where you get to keep all your stuff. It's a pain in the butt but the solution is to back up your important data and reinstall Windows...

Apple really needs to fix this because I'm having this problem on two computers. The Vista was just reset to factory settings and won't download iTunes for the same problem. My XP was working fine until I made to update from iTunes 8 to 10. They just reset my iTouch when they fixed it so none of my songs are backed up anywhere unless I get iTunes to work on the XP without losing any memory.

I had the same error message when installing itunes and this worked for me. restart your computer- go to control panel/programs/uninstall a program- click on apple mobile device support and then click repair- then do the same thing with apple application support. then right click computer from the start menu and hit manage- go to services and applications then services. -see if apple mobile device is started and if not start it. then right click itunes setup and run as administrator. it should work. good luck

When you are installing itunes and you get the above message just click ignore.

after you have clicked ignore the system will go ahead and install itues regardless off the issue.

you will then need to open itues and connect you mobile device.

you will now get a other failure message. all you now need to do is follow the below link to resolve the new issue and the proplem should be fixed.
