How do I hook up my Laser jet plus 4 printer to my Macbook Air?

I have a Laser Jet Plus 4 printer that works great for me and I want to use it to print from my Macbook Air. How do I do this?

PLEASE, keep in mind that I am a novice with all this and technical terms mean very little to me, Sorry! I basically need step by step instructions.

I know I need a different cord because the Laser jet does not have a USB cord. but what kind?

I use Verizon Fios Wireless, still have a modem as I use my old desktop to print from at the moment.

PLEASE, in simple terms, can someone help me?

If you can locate your LJ4 proximate to your router you can run a CAT5 cable from printer to router and connect the LJ4 over the network, then everyone can use it.

this printer was hooked up to a Dell desktop until a few weeks ago when the Dell died!

It was correct until we discovered ths option existed, at least Cat5 cables are very cheap 🙂

OK, i plugged it into the CAT6 to the router. Now when I try to print, it says PRINTER IS OFFLINE.

Is there something else I need to do?

I deleted the previous printer from my Macbook Air and then went back in and added a new one. Because I had changed the IP address in my LJ4...the last set of numbers is different, my Macbook Air is now recognizing the printer by the IP address....OK, IT PRINTS.....but it doesn't print what I aski it to....just 20-30 pages of garbled letters and numbers....
