Tried logging into the forum using my old Apple Id and got this:

We're sorry. Your account could not be created due to system issues.

Please contact Apple Support Communities with the information below to create your account."

I had to create a new Apple Id just to post this. Please help?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

They offered to change the Support Communities username attached to my various Apple IDs: my old unused account (ALF), my current account (also ALF), and the new account that I created just so that I could sign in here (A.L.F.). I asked them to delete the username attached to my old account, and reassign it to my current account. That was a few days ago - I haven't heard back yet. I'll give you an update once something happens.

Finally... Apple can now see the problem with a new message showing that you may have 2 apple ID's..

the new answer and a problem presents itself with 2 Apple ID's as shown example here.

example

1. "your_appleID"

2. "your_appleID@me.com" or "your_appleID@mac.com"

how was I able to create an apple ID with my unverified Apple @mac.com email address.

The only solution for me was to verify under another emial address I have as I do not want to lose the my apple ID which is all but short of @mac.com or me.com

How I was able to do it is another question?

Personally I do not think Apple should allow apple ID's that are the beginning of an already taken @mac.com or @me.com address.

Hope this helps.

(I'm paulenz too... I have 3!!!... paulenz was my first ever .mac.com account, that I needed to login into discussions. I don't use it though managed to bring it back to life to make a post here originally before discovering the above)

Apple if you could help that would be fantastic. Did you know Adobe sorted the merging of Adober ID's. Now that should be an incentive. 😉

But apple says that @me.com and @mac.com are one and the same! So why do they accept both as the same? I just checked my 1password and only see the original one @mac.com. So are they going to combine them? All correspondence in emails, etc is accepted as the same and why wasn't this ever a problem before? What happened? I don't ever remember using @me.com since my 1password always logs me in.

@me and @mac are both one of the same.

The issue is the ('myappleID') vs (myappleID@me.com & myappleID@mac.com) that is where the problem can occur. So for now lets just talk myappleID@me.com

if I login under: 'myappleID' it is a login though this login is not associated with myappleID@me.com is another login again!?

This issue is clearly my fault, though I think it can and has happened to a lot of users.

(myappleID is an example, not going to put my email address here, though you may have already worked it out)

This is soo confusing. You are saying that I logged in with an id once instead of using an id that contained the ending email @me or Mac.com? How dumb is this? Is that it? Can they fix this? Why did this even start? I was on the forums right before i posted this problem - so about 2 weeks ago, more or less. As far as I know, in the past years, I have always used ..... @mac.com, not just an "id". So are they fixing this? Where did this come from and why now? There are tons of others with the same problem, but not lucky enough to have you find out what the problem was! Now, how do I fix this without losing my current login, myappleid@mac.com? Thank you.

If you try to login again under the account that wont login it will now come up with 'new' page that can assist with the double logins.

That is where I discovered my user myappleID vs myappleID@mac.com so I resolved it partially.

However I have just discovered I can now login under the account I couldn't as I have now resolved the issue.

It will be your linked emails or any unverified email address's that can cause the issue I suspect.

Try to login now under the account you are having an issue with and follow the instructions of Apple as that page has now changed. You may find you have 2 logins, try to resolve the login you were unaware of (if this is the case)

I don't see it as a big problem. Now at least I know what accounts I have, Apple know what I have and there is management of accounts. Should Apple ever decide to merge accounts then those holding the accounts now will be in more control as they will be aware which account they want to keep as hero and merge.

I see this as a required exercise that was required for the fact I was unaware I had 2 accounts, though memory came flooding back once I saw the 2.

Look forward to see what happens now that the multiple accounts have been found by many.

I accidentally had 2 Adobe accounts (yes I must be one of those people), after many years Adobe finally merged them... not without pain.

@Apple Support: happy to be a beta 'crash test dummy' for merging accounts

Please report this mailshouse. He's rude and shouldn't be on this. I did create a new login or I wouldn't be here. I want my old one back because I need some of the answers that I have saved. Why isn't there a "report this post" for people like him ? Anyway will try what you suggest. Why did this happen all of a sudden? Anyone know?
