Can prepaid Visa cards be used to buy music on iTunes?

I have a valid prepaid Visa card(for electronic use) with a balance of $5 dollars on it but, iTunes declines this method of payment when I try to use it.

Trying to buy a $1.29 song.

No reason is being given why it declines this method of payment.

This same card was used last year with no problems.

I have a Canadian iTunes account,Visa card was bought in Canada and when open, iTunes has the Canadian flag at the bottom right of the page.

When I go to my iTunes account, it shows all the correct Visa info regarding this card.

On a side note, I called the number on the back of the Visa card to get my current balance and found out this little bit of news.

If you don't use up the value of the Visa card within 7 months of the purchase date of the card, you are then charged a $2 monthly upkeep service fee!

Sorry, as it was put to me, you are "ALLOWED" to use the card for 7 months before the monthly service fee kicks in.

So on top of paying either a $5 or $10 service charge when I first bought the card, now I've also lost $12 due to another service fee that I knew nothing about until now.

As I told the Citizens Bank customer service rep on the phone, I will never buy another one of their prepaid Visa's again.

Be happy i-Tunes is denying it! I used a prepaid Visa Vanilla ($50) to buy songs and got SCREWED. I put it in the billing info and it gave me a balance of$50, and I bought songs and videos, using about forty dollars worth. Everything went smoothly untill maybe a week later my balance was gone and said I had an outstanding balance of $39.92. I checked the balance on my card, nada. Visa said the transaction went through and i-Tunes said they were never paid. I now have $35 in iTunes cards frozen, and can't buy ANYTHING. Not even the free apps or podcasts. I am sorry to hear about the fees, I had no idea about that either, but your lucky it stopped you from buying and ending up in the red, LOL.

Turns out that the problems I was having, were all related to the prepaid Visa.

Altough all my billing information associated with the credit card was correct, and there was still a positive balance, the credit card was no longer "registered" and the 3 digit security code on the back of it, was no longer valid.

I don't know why or how this was but, that's what I was told by the Citizens Bank rep I talked to.

So, I've gone back to using iTunes cards and, have had no problems.

The iTunes customer rep I dealt with was very helpful trying to find out what was causing the problem in my case so, I'm guessing they will do whatever they can do at their end, to help you.
