How to restore from old backup data

Good day everyone,

What happened was that on 14th June 2011, I was updating my iOS from an older version. When iTunes prompted me to carry out a backup, I proceeded to make one. However, after my iOS was installed and the phone was activated, my laptop just happened to crash when it was restoring all my application data, contacts ect onto my iPhone.

Subsequently, when I got my laptop back working again on 16th June 2011, iTunes decided to resync everything from the now empty phone into iTunes. Essentially wiping out the previous backup.

After a few hours of digging around, I managed to find the folder for the previous backup date stamped on the exact time and day which it was created. However, iTunes does not show this previous backup and only the newly sync'ed empty one.

I've tried renaming the old backup folder with the same exact name as the new one. But that didn't work too.

How do I proceed to go about using the previously created backup to restore all my data onto my phone?

Thanks in advance.

I have restored the iphone 5 times and the problem persists.

So... if we have no solutions for this error, I started as a new iphone.

The problema was lose my contacts and agenda, but I could get it back using the software "iPhone Backup Extractor", it could found my last backups and extract the contacts and calendar entries, after that I imported it to outlook and syncronized with my "new" iphone.

But... the option restore from backup never came back.

Thanks for your help.
