Hi,
Need to quickly purchase an external drive for my powermac G4 and can't decide between these two drives. Have read quite mixed reviews about both, but would be interested to hear from anyone using either with same mac setup as me.

Don't know about the G-Drive, but if you decide on tthe Lacie one it might be wise to buy an extra Power Supply or 2, or 3...

Thanks for your response & link BDAqua. I should have mentioned that I did previously own a lacie drive, which I purchased about 6 years ago and that was the very same issue that I faced with the power supply! Luckily it was still within the warranty period and so Lacie supplied a new one. I was hoping that power supply issues would have been resolved by now. Hence my reason for considering another one of their drives, as that was my only bad experience with them. 😕
LaCie used to be one of the best, I still have a SCSI Lacie that works fine, I bought a LaCie D2 DVD drive maybe 4- 5 years ago, it lastest a dozen or less burns, they'd have to get some really rave long term reviews before I'd even consider one again.
I think the problem is the ever increasing demand for lower prices, & covers about everything we buy, even Macs don't last like they used to! 😉

Thanks hatter. I am having a look on their website, but I am in London and so I it doesn't look like they ship internationally. So this may not be an option for me and to be honest I would prefer to purchase from a company based in the UK, just in case I have any problems etc...
Completely understand, they do ship to the UK, but pricey...
the nice thing is they do ship if you are buying various items (RAM, hard drives, etc) or use that as a guide and then see if Amazon UK carries the same or one-off.
A lot of people have asked about UK/Europe like Alternet and others too.
G-Tech is owned by Hitachi and uses those drives exclusively. I have used both and consider the G-tech better quality materials while the lacie has the broadest distribution and hence less quality control. They use a mix of drives from Seagate, Western Digital etc.. For the best you should consider the Glyph GT50 drives. They are more expensive but you are paying for an extended warranty and data recovery. Their desktop drives have integrated power supplies (no external brick) and are rock solid. We have standardized on the Glyph after spending thousands to recover data from failed Lacie drives.

You've given me some other options to consider and looks like I've got some research to do now!! 😕 At this point I think I've decided to not go with the Lacie, but will see where this research now takes me and hopefully I will make the right choice!
Who would have thought that the world of external hard drives could cause such deep consideration and be so time consuming!😀
