I had been having the same problem of the old email popping up asking for an old password forever! Today, after trying everyones suggestions to no avail. I went into Settings/iCloud/Delete Account

It signed me out and I was able to put my new email back in on the sign in, and the pop up stopped.

It said it would delete all my photos, but as soon as I signed back in again, they all came back to my photo stream!

Hope this helps someone else!🙂

This issue was occurring on my wife's iPhone 6+ running iOS 8.1.1. The phone was received 2014-12-04 and iCloud was used to back up her iPhone 4 (iOS 5) and then synced to her new iPhone 6+. There were two issues hampering her satisfaction with the new phone:

  1. Treasures of Montezuma 3
The game would not save and her previous achievements/scores were lost. Unfortunately, this game is not currently compatible with iOS 8.
  2. iCloud Sign On Prompt
The iPhone 6+ continuously prompted her to sign in to iCloud. Adjusting setting seemed to be not good but we did notice the prompt to sign in occurs every time she attempted to compose a new email message. The system is set up with a work Microsoft Exchange account and a gMail.com account.

This discussion is the only one I found matching our issue and providing a potential solution. Unfortunately, the solution did not work exactly for us. If you find the solution by @Modular747 does not work for you, the following steps solved the problem for me:

.:.

  • Sign Out
    • Wake Phone
    • Select Settings
    • Select iTunes & App Store
    • Tap Apple ID: <Apple ID>
    • Tap Sign Out
  • Sign In via Prompt
    • Open Mail
    • Tap the Icon to Compose New Message
    • iOS Prompts to Sign In to iCloud
    • Enter you Password
    • Select Okay
    • Close the New Message
  • Sign In via Store
    • Return to Settings
    • Enter Password
    • Tap Okay
  • Sign In via Prompt
    • Return to Mail
    • Tap the Icon to Compose New Message
    • iOS Prompts to Sign In to iCloud
    • Enter you Password
    • Select Okay
    • Close the New Message
  • Verify Solution

modular747 Solution:

Settings > Store > Tap Your Apple ID > Sign Out > Sign In (again)
You may have to verify info such as address or credit card.

My apologies, the complete response did not post above. The remainder continues from Verify Solution step in my previous post above...

.:.

Verify Solution

  • Close Settings
  • Close Mail
  • Open Mail
  • Tap the Icon to Compose New Message
  • The new message should open without prompting to Sign in to iCloud
  • Open Settings
  • Select iTunes & App Store
  • The Apple ID should be signed in without an area to enter the Password visible.

I understand this seems repetitive, yet a disconnect exist between the Apple ID’s status and the Mail app. It seems Mail checks a switch (Boolean variable) to see if an Apple ID is signed into the iTunes store. Perhaps, this is supposed to occur only if users have an iCloud eMail address set up. My wife does not have an iCloud eMail, so I found it odd the Mail app is prompting to sign in to iCloud. If anyone having this issue does have an iCloud email connected to their Apple ID, please let me know.

.:.

Back to what I believe is occurring. The Mail app assumes the user is not signed in and attempts to sign the user into the iTunes Store using the prompt. If the user was signed in to the iTunes Store, the Mail app does not change the switch as it was not able to sign the Apple ID into the store. Now, each time a new email is composed, the Mail app prompts again attempting to succeed and set that switch to TRUE.

.:.

The steps above allow the Mail app to believe it is successfully signing in as there is not an Apple ID signed in. It seems to send the request to sign in, receives the expected message and flips that switch to TRUE but it does not sign the Apple ID into the store. When Settings is opened again, the Apple ID is NOT signed in and the password must be entered. Perhaps this flips a switch showing a change in sign in status because returning to the Mail app causes a prompt to occur again. What ever the reason, after the last prompt to sign in was completed, we have not seen another.

.:.

This work around may work for you but comes with no guarantees. If you choose to follow the suggested steps, any results are yours to handle. Nevertheless, I would appreciate you letting me know if it fails and/or if the prompt occurs repeatedly with another trigger than the Mail app. Potential causes are simply the ramblings of brain housing group through too many adjustments. I am also curious if anyone who did not upgrade from an earlier iPhone have this issue. Perhaps it only affects users who upgrade from an earlier iPhone, using iCloud to synchronize and without a iCloud eMail. If you have the issue but do not match these categories, please let us know. The better we understand when this occurs, similarities amongst those affected and settings not influencing the prompts, the easier it is for Apple to fix.

.:.

Thank you for everyone posting in this thread. Without the suggested solution, I might be trying to super glue an 6+ back together...
