I am having this same problem, I have been helping to set up two brand new hp computers running windows 7 - 64bit. One is a desktop one is a laptop. In both cases iTunes had never been installed so there was originally nothing to uninstall. In both cases iTunes would not install properly, I keep getting the Windows error 14001 - iTunes was not installed properly, or if I go to open the iTunes helper - same error. I am reading tons of issues on the web at various sites about this same problem... all the solutions are to download some file here and install install it there, and then download and install these registry keys, mostly pointing to the Mobile Device Support directory and improper installation during iTunes application install.
Please offer some advice on what can be done, obviously this is an issue with the installation files, not the user, as neither of these computers have ever had itunes installed prior to this point.
