Airport utility can't find any airport wireless devices

I asked a previous question but things are getting worse. I got the installation disk. I can't even check the base because I can't do a manual setup. I can't get past this instructon of not finding the device. The time capsule continues to give me a flashing amber light. I'm connected to the modem. Things were fine until my son messed around and set us back to default settings. I was trying to set up the WAN protected stuff and everything went downhill.

I'm completely lost and have no idea what to do anymore. Also, I can't remember the passwords for the device. Should I call Apple support. Although I will have to pay. Hoping you can help me here.

I composed this reply, then connected tothe TC which of course was offline and then lost my message when I wentback. So I had the error msg copied butnow don’t have it and can’t get it because the utility is now in a loop ofbeing unable to find any wireless devices and it wants to rescan and rescan.

So what I did was select the option to replacethe base station or modem with the wireless. Everything went nicely. It evensaw my old set up with my network, updated the settings etc etc. Took me rightthrough to the end where it was going to restart the TC and this is where italways falls apart. It couldn’t do this,t he amber light continued to flash andthen it died.

Now it’s back to not seeing the wirelessand that is where you entered hours ago. So I’m back to the beginning.

My router is Motorola is SB 5101.

If you want to give it one more try, we're going to need to start all over from ground zero.

I know that you have an Ethernet cable that connects from the modem to the Time Capsule.

Do you have another 'spare" Ethernet cable that can be used during the configuration?

Do you remember both your Time Capsule device password and wireless network password?

Right back to normal. A couple of things I was doing wrong. I should have given the Time capsule a new name rather than use the previous one. I should have set a new password on it. And I should have created a new network name. Since i was using what was there previously, it kept on trying to find the old stuff and it was getting confused.

So now I know.... just start right over. Thanks for your help.
