CD/DVD not ejecting from desktop Mac

Hey everyone,

I have this 20 inches desktop since May, 2007. It's an IMac 7.1, Intel Core 2 Duo. The only thing I did for this computer is that I upgraded the memory from 1 to 3 GB, 2 years ago.

But starting yesterday, the dvd's or cd's are hard to be ejected. It sounds that the system is trying to eject it, but it come back in. No matter if I write or read a cd. I saw on youtube how to help a cd to be ejected with a very thin blade and the IMac lying down on desk, face up. This way, I pull out an mp3 cd, and a dvd. But I need a real solution for this issue.

Thank you all guys for a lot of other good stuff found in here.

Thanks,

IMac7,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, Snow Leopard upgraded

check out Kappy's user tip:

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following: /usr/bin/drutil eject.
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above.
To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

Sounds like maybe your SuperDrives mechanical mechanism is worn out or gone bad.

One option is to contact your Local Apple Service Provider and have the SuperDrive serviced and/or replaced.

Service and Repair

Another option is to pick up a faster and more reliably tray loading External DVD drive.

Thanks Jolly Giant,

I tried everything mentioned by you. It seems that the eject mechanism has something loose, I don't know. And yes, I tried all from Apple Books and Manuals. The same symptom. Clicking, clanking, nothing out. I saw on youtube a trick, but that was the last solution. I left a message already to an Apple Repair Shop in my neighborhood to contact me monday.

On youtube I saw also how to replace the whole cd/dvd mechanism to a mac like mine. But first, I'm waiting for the shop to call me.

Thanks anyway, you guys are so helpful, more than expected.

Thanks
