I am unable to update my apple tv gen2

When I try to update the Apple Tv, I recieve a message saying that the device cannot download the most recent update and that I should try again later. I have also had issues signing in to Netflix, but those issues seem to be unrelated.

2nd reply...posted last night.

Am in Dallas and was able to successfully download the update via WiFi from ver 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 this evening at around 6 pm...first and only time I tried today.

Did speak with Apple this morning and the cs rep did say Apple had a server problem and it would be a day or 2 to get it resolved. This confirms what most everyone is saying here.

Works like a charm now.

I for one wasn't 'demanding' compensation, just suggesting that a small good will gesture from Apple - say a credit for an iTunes movie, a gesture in Apple's interests anyway - would be about right to compensate for the useless USB cable they told me to buy and the time spent on the phone to tech support trying solutions they should have known wouldn't work including sending an ATV back to them (having waited in all day for the UPS man to collect it...). Had they come clean from the start and said 'we have a server issue just hang on it will be sorted soon' that would have been fine - its the corporate denial, misinformation and wild goose chase I objected to.

It worked in New Orleans over my wifi. Looks like they finally found the right guy to fix the problem. It would have been better, at least for me, if Apple would have come clean from the start and said that their servers were messed up, rather than jerking me around and telling me to come in the store and have them update it (which didn't work, check my previous post). I don't own an iPhone, Mac, or an iPad, and based on this initial experience dealing with Apple, I'll keep it that way.

I think this morning's article in the WSJ may explain why Apple was reluctant to discuss its server issues with us last week.

SAN FRANCISCO--A group of computer hackers on Sunday posted a document it claimed contains usernames and passwords for an Apple Inc. server, the latest in a string of brazen attacks that have compromised government and corporate websites around the world.

Finaly it works in Argentina. In my experience, this is not the first time that Apple updates fails: ipdods no longer synchronize, airports extreme that become invisible , etc. My simple advice is do not despair, do not panic and wait. The customized solutions are always more complex than sit back and wait. In addition, we have to protest strongly at the forum to launch the solution process.

Think about this for the next time it happens. Be sure that it will happen again. 😉
