Problems using Dragon Dictate for Mac.

I used Dragon Naturally Speaking for years on my PC. Switched to an IMac. Dragon for Mac leaves a lot to be desired - training, recognizing, editing. Any suggestions about how to improve performance or other voice recognition software for Mac users? I dictate a lot of reports using MS Word.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Switch to 2.02

Dragon Dictate has no competition at any price.

Speech recognition is difficult software, the price is reasonable.

Dragon Dictate does a good job at speech recognition. Unfortunately it will crash other software when running. I find for example it will crash Preview fairly frequently.

Perhaps someday the bugs will get worked out. Knowing what I know now, I would purchase Dragon Dictate again (bugs and all).

Well, I bought the box set, loaded it, had problems, went to Nuance, they got interested, sent me to download another version online, then got bored ... I dictate 90% fine, but had crashes (that's the 80's I thought) then got diminishing accuracy over a page of dictation, then it started changing my sentences like I dictate "How are you going today: and it types "How you today going are" ... I know my version is Aussie accent but even we don't talk like that.. Then there's the determination to use 1st in a sentence instead of First, and that's just beyond training... I try and try but it just loves 2nd instead of second, If I refer to a number in a sentenxe like "there were three of us" it loves "there were 3 of us" which is a tad poorly english.... 🙂 I wonder what next? I like the program and for 90+% of the time I'm really happy not typing but after two hours I'm pretty exhausted.. can't really relax and just speak to type... Also sometimes it decides to stick a T in at the end of sentences when using Pages... I can live with a moving T after the cursor and found that by saving, closing and then opening my document I could get rid of it... grrrrrr -- I paid the $200 plus for the full version.. In retrospect T . I would have bought the App T version for a 2nd try.... 🙂

I would just like to reiterate the sentiments already stated concerning the support that is available from Nuance. I'm in the UK and can't even use the 800 numbers. I found that using Word causes so many problems with Dictate, particularly if combined with Endnote, that I've resorted to using Pages and then cutting and pasting!

My problem, which would have been nice to resolve was the annoying habit that this program has of resetting my microphone balance to 0 every time I switch it on. It means I have to go to systems preferences and reset the volume to 75 percent which enables much better recognition. I am using a Plantronics microphone/headset which in every other respect gives good results.

Does anyone have a solution to enable the Vocabulary Training function in Dragon Dictate? I can open the dialog box but cannot invoke the ADD… button, nor can I drag and drop files into the window. I'm running Dragon Dictate 5.0.2 in OS X El Capitan 10.11.1 on a late 2013 iMac. I dictate/text edit into Pages 4.0.3 (Pages '09 because I can't give up its full feature set).

I do get a lot (for a Mac app) of crashes with DD 5.0.2. From this thread, it appears that this is standard fare. Still, it's the best app I know of for capturing my creative work.
