With this new update I kind of lost one of my favorite features of iPhoto. Thats the one click web gallery. We are now forced to use the new iWeb application, which just adds a extra step. Also its really slow when its moving the photos over.
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The process doesn't appear anymore complex or convoluted to me.
There was always an intermediate step with iPhoto 5, when it brought up the secondary window where you chose the theme, renamed the photos, etc., and decided where in dotmac to upload the page.
All iPhoto 6 does is use iWeb instead of this secondaty window. Just select the photos you want, then click on the the little iWeb button and pick photo page. Then, pick a theme, change the titles, etc.. and click the publish button, and voila!
Maybe I'm missing something (?), but it doesn't seem any more difficult to me...

I have thousands of photos online there and I don't want to start a whole new, completely separate, Web site because I upgraded to iPhoto 6. This significant change was NOT disclosed to me before I purchased the software.

Doug, I totally agree with you on those points. I was replying to the original poster and his comment that it was more difficult/convoluted to create a dotmac web page with v6.x than v5.x.
I was dismayed when I found out, last night when I started playing with iPhoto 6, that the new web pages are not linked to homepage (or vice versa).
Personally, I don't have a huge number of photos on HomePage (about 600 photos on aout 40 pages), but I'm still faced with the tedious task of rebuilding them all... 😟 I do sympathise with you on this and can totally understand your frustration.

Just do it manually which is a couple more steps, but still easy.
You can bypass iPhoto altogether until the situation is resolved. You can manually upload your album to your iDisk.
Within iPhoto, share/export your album. Choose how you want them named, export size should be 800 x 600.
You can choose to export to a folder on the desktop, OR you can navigate to your iDisk/Pictures folder (by clicking on your iDisk in the left column of the Export window, then highlighting the Pictures folder...wait till the files show up.
Now click the button on the bottom left for "new folder" name the folder to the name of your slideshow. Now click "ok"
Wait till all your files are uploaded to your idisk Pictures folder.
If you exported to the desktop, then open up your iDisk folder (mount your iDisk), navigate to the Pictures folder and drag your folder of exported photos into the Pictures folder.
Go to your .Mac homepage.
Go to "create a page" and choose the album template you want.
In the next window your Pictures folder will open up. Highlight the folder you just uploaded, and click the "choose" button
Now you can finish your editing, titles, etc. and you are good to go.
Yes, thank you lori. I've already tried that and it took me approximately 30 minutes to create
this page doing it that way. The
same page created in iPhoto 5 a couple of days earlier took about three to four minutes. I put up a page like that about once a week and I'm not going to spend twenty-some hours a year editing my pages because Apple took away the ability to do it directly with a software update. If nothing else, this change should have been specifically noted at the online store's description of the iLife '06 box, on the iLife '06 and iPhoto Web pages and in a disclaimer on the box itself. This is significant change, for people like me, who have thousands of pictures on their homepage.mac.com site.
Really? It's pretty darn simple. I was showing it to my kid earlier tonight and was impresse at how easy it was. It is horrifically slow on my G4 tower, but not too bad on my iMac.
I mean, you click iWeb icon and select "Photo Page".
iWeb launches (eventually), and you choose a style theme.
You're ready, just replace the holder text and publish.
Well, in THEORY the photocast rss feed should work with anyone using a rss 2.0 compatible reader. In reality, Apple appears to have dropped the ball there for now. Good news, it should be a pretty simple fix.
Man! How is it an upgrade when you loose a feature? I used that feature almost every week. Now I'm supposed to replace it with a photo album that doesn't even have "next" and "previous" buttons? Please, I'd be better off using photoshop to make albums, or QuickieX (great photo album app). What crap. I'm going back to iLife 5 and demanding my money back.
The worst part of using the new iWeb for short term photo sharing is that every photo you send to iWeb is stored on your hard disk in the Domain.sites file again!
I just send feedback to Apple: Please give us the old Homepage feature back!
Is it me, maybe I'm just too dense in my recent confusion in this "upgrade", but is there a way to shrink file sizes in iPhoto6? There is no Share-->Export option.

While I won't deny there are some issues with iWeb as compared to Homepage photo galleries, this claim isn't really true. The slideshow feature in iWeb has back, forward, and pause buttons that appear as an overlay menu when the cursor is moved over the slideshow photos. (I just viewed a friend's iWeb slideshow for the first time and noticed this feature.)
You get the same functionality with the iWeb slideshows as with the Homepage slideshows. The features are just presented differently.
I agree, I just sent feedback to apple to say the same. No where on their ads for ilife'06 does it day that you LOSE this feature, I feel they should have been more specific in saying you now HAVE to use iweb, or your HAVE to own iphoto for photocasting.
I was most gutted when we found out that you can't just hit homepage now, most of our family who want to see pictures of our new baby son can't do so on their CHOSEN computer.
Anyplace, back to iphoto5 for me I guess, thanks for letting me vent!
