Lost ability to easily build photo pages?

I think everyone should check this out. It answers most, but not all, of these issues.

Add another vote for restoring Home Page. My wife is non-technical and uses this feature constantly. When we saw that it was gone and tried the new iWeb features, it was very confusing: moving photos to iDisk, etc. and the templates are different and fewer. Seems like a bad decision to me.

I'm in the software industry and when we upgrade software we always talk about "not removing any points from the board", i.e. don't take away anything that is currently working.

Another vote for restoring Homepage functionality to iPhoto as well.

The main thing I wanted out of iLife 06 was the new iPhoto (the other stuff is nice but won't be heavily used). However, we very regularly put up photos using iPhoto-->Homepage. In fact, it's the primary reason we kept a .Mac subscription.....it's fast enough to put up pictures that we have time to do it.

Now....for right now at least we won't be upgrading to iLife 06 (one sale lost for Apple) and if at some point iPhoto 5 can't publish directly to HomePage, we'll likely drop .Mac (another lost sale for Apple).

All that to say, please restore iPhoto-->HomePage publishing. 😉

I just found this out for myself. I'm disappointed. What bothers me most is that I can't see the iWeb photo gallery from the homepage...

Just a quick one to post up a workaround...
I posted up an album as .mac slides, then in idisk, moved the pictures from the slideshow album into a new folder. Then used homepage from safari as usual...took about 5-6 minutes for about 10 photos in all!

Anyplace, I do hope the reinstate this option, I've grown to like iweb more, but would cherish the choice!

I'm not just angry that Apple completely removed a feature without telling us. I'm offended. We should all be offended. We are users of a product and by default, when we UPGRADE, we expect that our workflow isn't just completely eliminated. And if software must change, then there is at least a transition period. There is NO transition period between '05 and '06. We basically have no easy access to THREE YEARS of work.

Yes this is a sad and unexpected feature loss. The workaround to upload your picture first and then go to Homepage is slower and less intuitive.

iWeb is not an option for me. It does not have enough templates and does not let me manage my Homepage web sites.

This is especially a loss for non-technical users. iWeb is too hard and too confusing for the average picture taker.

I wish someone would write a hack to just fix it!

Completely agreed. I also don't have the option of using iPhoto 5 (even if I still had a copy) as I'm on an Intel Mac, which only supports iPhoto 6.

What's even worse is buried inside the iPhoto package is the old HomePage interface (iPhoto.app/Contents/NetServices/Bundles/HomePageService.NetService), so presumably there is some way to use it (perhaps some people installed iPhoto but not iWeb?).

I'll be canceling my dot-Mac membership when renewal comes up over this. It no longer offers me any ease of use over Joe Schmoe's web hosting (or even running it myself), so I see no need to pony up the money. That said, I'll also be unlikely to upgrade to future versions of iLife, as iPhoto was pretty the only reason I would upgrade to begin with, and it has had it's most useful feature removed.

Heck, the Homepage bundle is even version 6.0, so it was updated for iPhoto 6! Meanwhile, there are references to iWeb as "Blade" in both Applescripts and inside the application classes, along with a copyright notice of 2004! Seems like it was in development all that time, and it still can't do simple things like integrate with the existing Homepage sites, import them over, etc.

This has bad management written all over it.

Add Me to the list of disappointed users. I have submitted feedback to Apple and hope you all will also.

For now I have gone to using the online way to do pages. Lets hope they don't get rid of this also!!

Could you please explain how to install iPhoto 5 alongside iPhoto 6. I really miss the Homepage feature.

I just had time to sit down to post some pictures to my Homepage this morning and discovered that the Homepage publishing was GONE!!!

I published a small page to iWeb just to try it out. It was easy and looked OK. However, no controls, no counters and a limited number of templates.

What is more to the point is that I have hundreds and hundreds of pictures/albums posted at my Homepage going back several years. I post for a group I belong to and have family weddings, births, artwork, old family photos etc. etc.

How on earth am I going to post all of these to iWeb! The sites are constantly updated and I don't want to send people to two different addresses.

I had just got over the huge crash of Homepage where my photos had all rearranged themselves and albums and pages were moved and altered. Just when I thought I had things under control again - wham - they change the playing field.

What is the easiest way to move my albums from Homepage to iWeb?

Is it worth doing just yet or should I take the 'wait and see' route?

And yes, I did send a long post to feedback...... off into the black hole where you have no idea if it is read or not.

Hi Jill,
There is an option for a counter under one of the menu bar items. I don't have iWeb open right now, but look in the menubar for the option to add a counter.

Now the bad part...there is no easy way to transfer all your albums to iWeb.
You have to start right from the beginning with iWeb and select the albums in iPhoto, then send to iWeb and publish them all over. You can then go to homepage and delete the albums from there so as not to use up your idisk space.
Now the even worst part, sending the albums from iPhoto to Homepage was very nice, in that it did not copy the photos again to your hard drive but were uploaded right from iPhoto. iWeb, on the other hand, copies the photos from iPhoto to a file called Domain.sites on your hard drive and then uploads them from there. This takes up a lot more space on your hard drive.

Add my name to the list of people who are extremely frustrated by this development. I will NOT be publishing my quick albums via iweb, it's just too time consumer. I did fill out the feedback page.

I suspect all the homepage functionality is still in the app, too bad someone doesn't make a hack to turn it back on.

I bought iLife this last weekend. I had no idea I would hate it so much.

This morning, I had about 20 minutes to post a few pictures from a recent trip. It took me over an hour. I didn't mind too much that I had to publish my pictures through iWeb. Though, I much prefer just hitting a 'Publish' button in iPhoto... So, I selected the Site I wanted to publish, as I have a few test sites in iWeb that I've just been playing with. Today, I only wanted to publish the site with this single page of pictures. But iWeb published them all! Stupid. The docs say that to unpublish a site I have to delete it from iWeb. What???? So, I can't have test sites or longer range projects in iWeb when I just want to put up a few pictures? That *****!

Also, there were more templates in the old iPhoto. And I hate the new slideshow. The old slide show was clean and loaded quickly. This new one takes forever for me to load.

I am REALLY frustrated.
