Nintendo Wii internet from Airport 10.6

I am trying to use the wireless feature of my Wii by connecting to my iMac airport internet sharing. My system is 10.6. It finds my Mac but won't accept the password and says the connection fails (I have verified the password by re-entering into my laptop which connects to the internet sharing and reset it but still a no go). I have browsed all the forums for answers and so far see many people with my issue but no solution yet. All the solutions are for 10.4 and previously and don't seem to apply to 10.6. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the wireless on the Internet Sharing on the Mac is limited to WEP security, which offers little to no protection since WEP is easily cracked by simple tools readily available on the Internet.

On top of that, WEP password compatibility is really sticky among devices from different manufacturers.

That's because different manufacturers use different "algorithms" to generate the complex code when you enter the password characters. So, although you are entering the correct "password", the Wii is generating a different code, which will not allow the connection.

You may have to consider setting the wireless up for no security in order to allow the Wii to connect.

Otherwise, your best chance for compatibility is going to be to use a 5 character password if you are using WEP 40 Bit, or a 13 character password if you have chose WEP 128 Bit for the wireless. This Apple Support Document will provide more details:

Please let us know if the 5 character or 13 character password works with the Wii.
