Not to split hairs, but the Xcode 3.2.6 and iOS SDK 4.3 that the OP is downloading is available with a free developer account, it does not require a paid iOS developer account. XCode 4 requires a paid iOS developer account or the App Store purchase.

I personally would spring for the $5 to use the current version unless this is just for temporary one-time usage.

You can also download Xcode 4.0.2 as well, with the latest SDKs.

The other downloads are beta tools...do you know what a beta is?

If you accepted the default install location, view the /Developer folder in Finder. You can start Xcode and other tools from there. I can't remember whether the installer adds a dock icon for Xcode but you can easily do that after you start it.

The OP isn't downloading...the OP claims to be using from disc.
