The Final Cut Pro X CRASH Thread

Hi, I'd like to start a thread for people that experience crashed in Final Cut Pro X.

No other Applications crashes on my Mac Pro. I have never experienced crashes like

I do now with Final Cut Pro X.

During my three hours spend with FCPX it crashed about 8 - 9 times.

The Crash reporter seems to indicate that is related to the functions that use the Video Card acceleration.

It's always OpenCL / OpenGL ...

Please Post if your's crashes, too.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 6 Core, 8 GB RAM, Ati 5870

Mine crashes all the time too. First i noticed the undo button was grey. then i it crashed and did not save a few hours worth of work. now it will not allow me to share at all. Any ideas. I have a 3 mo old mac book pro with i7 and 12gb of memory so it should not be over worked. The file is 18gb and i think thats the real problem.

I am using version 10.0.3 and the project i created in this version. I have not had problems with previous versions.

Now the software is sooooo sloooowww. I have 16 G of ram and i see the program is eating ram all the time. When I open FCPX there are 11 GB of ram free and after 20 min it is 5 GB. And the project i am working on is in 1080 and 30 sec long. No other Events or projects are in my Event Library.

Now, my FCPX crashes alot. it does every time I laucnh the application. the problem I used to have is crashing only when I try to edit a text title but now it crashes every 4 - 6 seconds. I can't even launch another project !!

My MAC version is 10.7.3 , and I used to use FCPX version 10.0 ... now I uninstalled it and trying to install version 10.0.3

hopefully It will work !!

I was working with FCPX 10.0.2 with no problems, P2 material.

(I only remember it crashing few times if i imported a .mov file, previously exported from fcp 7.)

This was clean install on top of a clean install of Lion on a brand new MBP.

Then, I updated to FCPX 10.0.3.

For a couple of days, only crashes, unable to import any new P2 footage from camera.

What i did:

I deleted every single project and every single event, and all folders associated with them.

Now I was able to work with new footage with no problem.

Clonlusion: Not only that FCPX dont like any .mov files created by FCP 7, also the FCPX 10.0.3 cant tolerate many things created by FCPX 10.0.2.

Solution:

Keep the project and event library as empty as possible.

At the end of all jobs, I export a prorez hq export of the footage, with sound and without sound, so I have kind of emergency archive of my past work even if I cannot open the old project files.

Dont get me wrong, I still believe in FCPX, it has kind of fluid transparency of the process no other program is offering at the moment.

I mean, the engine is strong, even if gearbox needs work.

An analogy: on still image side, I am locked on Lightroom for forkflow reasons, but If i sometimes take the time and compare the raw material handling on pixel level btw LR and Apples aperture, aperture is more organic vs the engineered feel of adobe.

So the engine is important.

I'm having problems with 10.0.3 leaking memory.

I'm working on a project and the longer I spend in FCPX the slower it gets - I'm watching my memory ussage and it's continully growing. If I quite FCP X and re-launch it, it starts the process over again. Snappy for a bit and then gets sluggish.

I've trash pref. Any other ideas?

I'm working on a newer iMac with 16gb of Ram, 10.6.8, I'm using Event Manager and only the project that I'm working on is open. The project is located on an external disk that is being access through eSata - so it should be fast data transfer. I'm wathcing the rending que and it's not working on something in the background.
