I've stuck with 10.6.8 and 10.2. No problems.

Can you go back to Snow Leopard and 10.0.3?

The only time 10.0.2 crashes is when I'm deleting text while editing titles....sometimes.

Since i installed the lasted version of fcpx it just crashes. Can not get the program to start!! Do not know what to to. It has been perfect since the day it came out, and i have made a huge amount of films on it from august last year and today. I am told to always use the last version, but this is a mistake with this software!

is this true? The reason why I am in this thread is that I had the worst problems ever with a peace of software. However: What crashed was FCP X 10.0.2 for a certain user. I was able to create a new user, and the software would not demonstrate any problems. Apple has allowed to download FCP X over and over to reinstall it. No help.

This means that something related to the applications of that user + preferences etc. was the culprit. Similar things happened to my Windows partition on Parallels. After a crash (of something, but not of Windows) it started telling me that my copy of Windows was not genuine software. It took about two months to clarify the issue, but not without sending complaints to high rank people of Parallels and Microsoft. Finally, an expert from Microsoft hotline went through all steps of launching the application for about an hour before we could find the culprit. Somewhere deeply buried and hidden from the eyes of any user, a certain box had been checked to signal that this copy was running somewhere else in the world. I cannot blame either Microsoft or Parallels because their software was not running when the crash occurred.

It is likely that the evil culprit is an application you would not imagine. When the above problem happened, the crashing client was Firefox, and the crash was caused by Cooliris. I was not very sure how it happened because I was not at my workplace when this happened. When I returned, my computer had been restarted. Yesterday I could witness that procedure. While watching photos, Cooliris crashed and caused immediately a kernel panic. I am not sure if I have detected all damage. But the obvious thing is that all settings of Mail have been reset including the language.

Something similar like with Windows happened some days ago with my Photoshop CS5 after updating to 10.7.3. It would not display the printer dialogue but just print. This time, I reinstalled 10.7.3 and reset the preferences. No help. The outlook was dim because there are many reports of problems with Photoshop after updating to 10.7.3. But somebody told me that something is likely to be corrupt. It was. The interesting thing is, that the recommended procedure is normally one of the first I try if something does not function properly. This time I had failed to remember. And the failure would be blaimed on both, Apple and Adobe, the usual suspects.

I think, we should be fair if we decide to bash.

You best and possibly only option may be to re-format the drive. Re-install the operating system and install only the aplications that are vital to video editing. There may be a deep seated conflict between apps somewhere on your drive.

So finally after trying to solve the problem myself I called apple support. I got a great guy named Steve WHO SPOKE ENGLISH AND SOLVED THE PROBLEM IN ABOUT 30 minutes by deleting my first install and files and reinstalling! Next timr just call apple first. Hope springs eternal. Sorry for the rant.

If you mean my problem, it has been solved by the OS X and FCP X update. If you re-format the drive, you may lose lot and lots of information you have forgotten to think of. You will become aware of it later when you miss the stuff.

I have heard rumors that some apps may be in coflictt with each other under circumstances. One person who told me this story was a reliable expert. Thus, there may be some truth behind the advice. However, my last three computers are full of all imaginable apps including those that would never run on Lion. E.g. all versions of MS Office sind 1998, Photoshop since 7 till CS 5, Apple works all versions, and a variety of powerful applications including those running on Windows. I sometimes use two virtual machines with WIN 7 and XP together with a dozen and more Mac apps. I also open dozens of windows. In earlier times, I used to work with FCP and two other video editing programs parallel. This machine works without a substantial problem for weeks although nobody is likely to operate a computer in this manner. So, I do not detect a serios problem.

Same here. Can no longer print in PS Cs5.5 from the print dialog, so the workaround is print to pdf and then print from Preview (or some other app).

I've always found that the computer that makes me money only has the apps on it that are central to making money. ie......video production apps. All other apps go on other machines.

Try this: While launching Photoshop press down the key combination that resets its preferences (I am not sure which one, but it is easy to find out beacause it asks whether you wish to reset).

OK. My video production is just for fun or for small clips used in Keynote presentations. I used to earn money with testing applications or input devices. That´s the reason why I learned to mess three screens with dozens of windows. And my computer had to learn to support four pointing devices and two keyboards at the same time.
