Clam Down...Apple says missing features coming soon.

I am sorry that all the "pros" are over reacting to the release of FCPX. Instead of being civil they have been quite rude and dumb. If all you guys clam down a second and read the news you would know that almost every single missing pro feature for FCPX will become availible via update rather soon. Apple and several news outlets have made this very clear. SDI, EDL, XML. All those features are coming very soon. Maybe they should not have released it so soon, for that they might deserve a bit of scorn, but the stuid ranting needs to stop. You people are supposed to be professionals and you are acting like children.

Complain away as much as you want. Demand the features we need. But try doing so in a way that doesn't make you come off looking like and a@@.

What's going on is Apple is forcing out the professional creatives that it has so valiantly been supporting -- and is dumping them for the cash-ready general consumerist.

The future of Apple is to shift its devices and software to revolve around iOS/iCloud/Appstore/iTunes. That is why VP of Software ENgineering Bertrand Serlet (OSX-creator) quit Apple -- because he doesn't support coddling the iOS environment.

At this point, Apple makes more money off of the Appstore/iTunes than it does from their computers!

I woudln't be surprised if FCPXv2 runs off of an iPhone5 and Macbooks run iOS3.

I'll borrow from what I wrote elsewhere:

Early adopters of this application have every right to be disappointed and even a bit upset. To act as if the problem resides with them and not with Apple is disingenuous. Apple didn't say they were releasing a new product, with a new name, that was going to be radically different than its existing products. They said they were taking one of their exiting products and infusing new features and improved capabilities to make it better than before.

Had Apple called the this new product iCut Enthusiast 1.0, there would be none of the bitterness and disappointment that Apple is now seeing. Probably just the opposite. People would be applauding things like the magnetic timeline and the revolutionary ways of handling media and hoping that perhaps one day nuts and bolts features necessary for professional use would be rolled into it so it could be better utilized in a genuine professional workflow.

Apple didn't go that route. They called it Final Cut PRO X and said it was a continuation of it's existing product with new and exciting enhancements. Well guess what. It's not a continuation because the application isn't even capable of using legacy files in any fashion. And it's been stripped of its PRO capabilities that are so integral to a truly professional product. FCP is a tool used not only by Editors, but by the Assistant Editors who enable them to produce and deliver a project to a client, a studio or a network. While it sounds great that they got an Academy Award winning editor to discuss how much it helps him do the storytelling part, that's is only part of the story. It's the testimony of the Assistant Editors, Post Production Supervisors and Associate Producers who are going to tell the story of how "Pro" the application is. And huge number of them are not liking how the first chapter of the story is coming along.

As for the idea that people should be wary of putting down $300 for a new product and thus the onus is on them to suck up and stifle their disappoint is a diversionary attempt to ignore the point. Apple doesn't give its customers a choice but to buy the product sight unseen. They provide no trial software, no betas and keep the details of all the capabilities of the product secret while implying that core existing features will remain. Under those conditions there have to be some early adopters in order for people to find out what the product is and isn't.

First let me say that I came to the Apple world two years ago after being in the PC world from it's beginning. I have never used Final Cut in any shape or form so I don't have a major oar in this water, but I have read every post on this forum because I wanted to move beyond the iMovie/Photoshop Premiere Elements 9 world I now inhabit. I didn't want to purchase the 'current' FCE because I believed it to be a dead ended product and any time I spent learning the interface would be wasted. I based this on the amount of time that has passed since the last update to FCE. FCP7 was beyond my beyond my requirements (but not my curiosity) and so I decided to wait for FCE to be updated or replaced and limp along with iMovie/PPE9.

I won't go into why Apple may have handled the release of Final Cut Pro X the way they did because in reading this thread I believe I have seen all major points covered but I will say that I didn't find any statement to be invalid--for the person making the statement.

My video editing needs are small in relation to most posting in this thread but I try to keep up to date with the new innovations and was 'thrilled' to read of the release of FCPX.

That being said, I do have a lot of experience working in large teams--international in scope--and do understand the necessities involved in collaboration. As it now stands I don't believe FCPX is suited for generic collaboration and I can totally sympathize with those who are having difficulty believing Apple operated in the manner they have. If Apple has indeed ceased all technical support for FCP7 then I feel a major mistake has been made. That is plain and simple abandonment of a large percentage of users. FCPX may be the wave of the future but it certainly isn't ready to replace FCP7--a quick perusal of this forum or the technical news will assure one of this being a factual statement.

And I now come to the main reason for responding in this thread...

FCP7 users have every right to be extremely upset with what has happened in the FCP world but expressing that dissatisfaction in these forums will only lead to further frustration. For every argument there will be a counter argument leading to a never ending circle wherein it is likely that nothing useful will accomplished--unless one considers 'venting' to be an accomplishment.

So, I will ask this question: Has everyone here who has found the current situation to be unacceptable presented their arguments directly to Apple? If you haven't already done so I would suggest your frustrations also be vented--in a polite and constructive manner--in the proper place for feedback to Apple:

Thanks for listening.

I believe this is because Compressor is only aimed at professionals, they don't want to spend money on developing it. The professional sector is becoming of less interest for Apple each month, the release of Lion is making this very clear.. I cheered for Apple when Snow Leopard came out, but now with all this iPadification I'm seriously worried, glancing at Linux, hoping that something good might happen in thet environment..

Please pardon the elementary question - but does anybody know if FCPX will be able to do Screen Capture or not?

I ask because QuickTime X has the "Screen Capture" ability - but I don't use it for various reasons.

I was hopeful that FCPX would be able to do this.

That way - I could do EVERYTHING within FCPX.

Right now I use iShowU, Logic Pro, and FCP.

Granted - there are easier avenues I could probably take - but the end result of my product is something I am quite happy qith.

The video always looks great, and the sound is top-notch.

So, if Screen Capture isn't possible with FCPX right now, maybe somebody from the "Engineering" dept could consider this for a future update.

At any rate - I still intend on purchasing FCPX as soon as possible.

Take care

Scott

You nailed it down to the core. And this future is everything at Apple. Apple decides what one needs and what is obsolete. No DVD Drives needed, because you install "apps" from the store. FC X and old technic, tapes, multimonitor. Nada. We live in the cloud, put it on youtube. You run a small business around your iweb-authored website and rely on your .me. com email ? Need to upgrade to Lion.

Look at Lion. It's "iosized" all over. The sign is on the wall where the train is headed.

Not only does Apple **** off the Pros, but also the home users. People that bought MobileMe subscriptions find themselfe with an no longer supported iweb application with the future of hosting services unknown. All they know is they need to upgrade at any price to Lion to be able to use a email adress, even if that involves buying new Apple Hardware. What becomes of the fact that ppc apps no longer will function, Apple does not care.

I was critizizing Microsoft everytime, but I have to say their long-term support and overall backwards-compatibility strategy is for a Business aspect way more pleasant then Apple's "decisions" to cut all of a sudden things off and to interpret what allmighty Steve says or not says.

This is not working in the long run. Apple is going all for consumers and iphone fetishists. This might pay off in the meantime, but those kids that love the idevices are more important then enterprise relationships ??

If this message will get me banned here ( former messages of mine have been removed ) I understand completly what company Apple is. Free Speech and critizizing the iGods might be uncool here, but I am a free thinker.

at least Lightworks is opensource actively developing for various platforms. MainActor was once a powerful ( commercial ) Videoeditor, some real working and halfway easy to use iMovie clones like openshot, pitivi have appeared on Linux, so there are folks interested into videoediting on Linux.

Adobe has a thinktank going on if they should release the CS suite for Linux if enough users would buy that..

All is not lost for the future.

You know what luke since your there, you should Fire the R&D department for final cut. They have no IDEA on how to be creative. I am mad because YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT WE WANT.

I was so looking forward to Final Cut Pro X, from what I have found the software is a joke. Apple Says you listen to us but you don’t. I have been a FCP user for a long time, I came up from the turbo cube to the Affinity to final cut and as a Professional Editor you didn’t ask me what I thought about the new final cut, you have my serial number and my name why didn’t you ask me? Or for that matter any of us. You would have been in a better position to create a lasting professional software. I think this is a bad product and I am telling all the pro’s I know NOT TO buy it, because we need that $300 bucks to keep our doors open to our clients. OK Apple, you just became a weiner – and just take it on the nose … you screwed up . . I would rather forgive you than waste my time beating you up. I know you Can’t help That, you’re a corporation, your absolute motivation is money. So I will be the consummate Professional and continue to use FCP 7 BECAUSE it’s the tool that helps me give MY clients what they need to better show case the products they sale to make a living at and That is what makes the world go round…” Mr Flintstone your car looks great but your wheels are square.” Just ask us we will help you go faster, work more efficiently and operate with zero defect and people will BUY YOUR PRODUCT.

For starters just make Final cut pro 7 a 64bit platform and you will make a lot of people happy and gain more users and respect. THAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO.

Hi lukeW, i am sorry, but you are the one being rude. What apple has just done, is not smart and ****** alot of people off. Me included. I do not like to have my money locked up with something i cant use now. Simply, they should allow every user a refund, or in worst case, a coupon to the app store of the amount of 299 usd. Really come on. So many folks down on this, does not mean, there is a lot of stupid people. Listen listen to the crowd, and react accordingly...
