Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

No "Save as" option in FCP X?

is there no way to actual do a "Save" or "Save as"? it seems not. does this mean that everytime i want to just go into a session (Event) and just play around but "NOT SAVE" or more specifically not "OVERWRITE" my session...now FCPX will not give me the choice and "SAVE" it AUTOMATICALLY?

according to the FCP X manual it seesm so...

""Final Cut Pro automatically saves all the changes you make as you work on a project, which means you never have to save changes manually. Also, you can undo all of your changes up to the last time you quit and reopened Final Cut Pro by choosing Edit > Undo (or pressing Command-Z)."

Apple thinks they are helping me by saving for me "automatically"?

APPLE FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!!! you have got to be kidding...really!

Sorry bub, I don't do geek speak and I've been dealing with online communications development since it began, I don't consider upper case letters to be shouting. I (as well as many others) do it for emphasis purposes, as it absoltuely does emphasize the word which one chooses to type in upper case.

I don't live my life online and feel the need assimilate my conversational aptitude into a method that those who do live in their mom's basement and have no social skills outside of online forums, in order to convey to people that I may or may not be shouting, I just assume that people are socially cognizant and intelligent enough to tell the difference, regardless of punctuation, case, etc...

But then, clearly I am expecting too much.

Not directing all of that at you, it's a general statement as I'm tired of people whining about "yelling" when someone uses upper case letters, and all of these completely asinine rules on forum chatter. My god nobody knows how to communicate in real life anymore, now we have to apply idiotic rules here?

Forget it, get over it, this isn't the USSR of online foums.

Thanks, and enjoy.

hmmmm... well I haven't seen anyone relate to my main issue with duplicating doucments, but I didn't have time to read all 5 pages of comments on this thread...

but basically I find duplicating projects works much the same as Save As for me, I get to a point where I want to move on but be able to go back to the point I am at in a project, so I would use Save As in FCP7, now I duplicate and continue from there.... BUT 😉 .. the duplicated project (even with the checkbox for "duplicate render files" unchecked) rerenders all the files into a new Render Folder in the newly created project folder as soon as you start to work in the duplicated project. In FCP7 the new project continued to use the same render files which were created in the original document. So now everytime I make a duplicate it also creates new render files which is just eating up disc space and wasting the computers energies by rerendering files that haven't changed.... it seems pretty ridiculous. I have just dragged the Render Files Folder to the newly created project which seems to work fine, but everytime you go back to the older project it then just rerenders them all again even if not necessary... FCP7 would only render where changes had been made.... There doesn't seem to be an acceptable work-around for this, as it was also a lot easier to have all render files of all projects stored somewhere else, as you can easily just delete all projects render files when disc space became low. Now you have to go through all the individual Projects to delete renders of Projects you are not currently using.

Or am I missing something??

Thanks...

I agree with most of the people here:

1. I often just fool around with the timeline on a project to see how things look in a different way. I can close it knowing nothing has been saved. Now that easy choice is not given to me. I have to always be aware that any changes will be saved. I have to always remember to save the one I'm working on before I fool around with changes and remember to delete it from my hard drive so I wont fill it up with useless versions. This requires more work and more time.

2. FCP was always about multiple choices for doing the same thing. Apple just took one of those choices away.

They could have easily put in a button to turn on or off such an auto save option but they didnt.

3. In their love affair with imovie, they have made FCP a more undesirable product. If it wasn't for the HD problem, I'd go back to using FCP ver7, but I guess I'll start using premiere which still gives you the choice of saving the project or not.

No "Save as" option in FCP X?
