How can I decode a microsoft word document? It does not respond to any of the decoding modes offered on my OS X operating system. I have a Powerbook G4.

I'm curious--you say you have a PowerBook but your OS version (10.6.7) is too new to run on any PowerBook. Might want to do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and clear up. that apparent contradiction. If it's really OS10.6, and you have an aluminum case, you have a MacBook Pro, which is much newer and more capable than the older Powerbooks.
Enough of that. Nothing native on your computer will open a Word file unles you install Apple's iWork or MS Office. However, there are free options that handle those files and give you the functioanlity of MS Office:
Both are very polished and fully-functional productivity programs. You can do word processing, spreadsheets, and presentaions and share them with MS Office users, plus can open MS Office files sent to you.
The best thing u can probly do to read whatever doc u have is to re-format it all. Go to a Shareware or freeware site and pick something up that will do the trick. Cya Dude.....Eddy
