APPLE - GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!!!!!

This is not a Final Cut Pro piece of editing software.

This is iMovie with some enhanced features, hence the ability to import older iMovie projects,

but not Final Cut Pro projects.

I HAVE SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY BEING BOUNCED AROUND FROM THE APP STORE PEOPLE,

TO THE ITUNES PEOPLE TO THE FINAL CUT PEOPLE.

Each time they tell me another department handles what I need to have done.

When you misrepresent a product as poorly as this, people will not stand for it.

This is a joke of a "pro" app and Apple should stand up and take the punch to the stomach.

Apple you built your rep on making great products, maybe this one made sense somewhere in the

test labs, but in real life it leaves millions of professional editors who rely on FCP everyday to make a

living.

Take FCP 7, add in 64bit and I'll give you $300. Keep everything else the same for all I care, but this

app (FCPX) is completely useless for any form of professional editing.

Listen everyone, it will be clearly obvious to all who have not been suckered into buying this product to wait and see what happenes. And while I agree, Apple may face some kind of lawsuit for falsly advertising something as "Pro" when the standard that they themselves have set with previous versions has not been met, as Professional editors we all have to 'be" professional and practice some reserve here. We should not be rushing out to buy a completly new program like this without doing what a professional should do....and thats research anything to the fullest before we commit. I must admit that when I saw the $299 price tag I thought "man I could get that without having to wait!" But then I thought, 'yeah but wait a minute...calm down...this is your business...do what you always do and research first!" And I did...and I didn't buy it!

There a lot of very cool features that I can definately wow my customers with in this new platform and it has some very cool new editing features that could surely make my life easier as an editor, but when Professional features are missing that means I would have to find a work-around that would kill any benefits.

I suggest for now, we all chill...Apple is surely not happy with all these responses and will surely make some serious revisions and include all the things we as Professional Editors have grown to love about the previous versions, and then if need be...in all seriousness, file a class action lawsuit against Apple.

Apple should have known better than to launch this before being tested by seasoned FCP experts and got it right the first time. I love my Apple products so I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now...

C'mon Apple...get this thing fixed!

quique - sorry to point you out specifically. i didnt mean for my reply to come off as a personal attack. after re-reading it, i can see how it can be taken as such.

But sadly, in the professional creative field, FCPX is not the answer to post-production workflow. The real kicker is that with the current FCPX, Apple has decisively ended their support for a professional post-production solution.

And when I say 'professional', I mean working in Television/Commercial Broadcast and Feature Films where image quality and control is paramount and involves a process beyond FCP -- where color correction and Visual FX compositing is handled on a Flame and audio in a ProTools studio. Not shooting music videos or how-to-vidoes in your home or office cubicle. The past decade, FCP has penetrated the professional post-production market and revolutionized our workflows.

Unfortunately, FCPX is not a professional tool. Even Apple states that the FCPX they released is not for professionals. It is a prosumer tool at best. What irks me is that Apple keeps marketing FCPX as a professional tool instead of announcing what it what it truly is: iMoviePro.

I am cool with the new interface and I figured I would have to stumbled a round for a little bit to figure out where stuff is. You can expect that when going from one software to another. But I really didn't expect to have to research an upgrade to a product I have used for the past 6 years. If I was making a switch to Premier or Avid, and it didn't have the features I need I could see your point.

But when I buy a brand new car and it's a new model from the one I bought 5 years ago, I still expect it to have a steering wheel, tires, brakes and a CD player. When the new models come out with the sunroof, and the chrome wheels they don't take away the steering wheel or the engine.

This is what Apple did to us. With no multiclip, they added a sunroof, but removed the engine. And now my car doesn't run.

But this is why it is so important for us to comment on Apple's discussion boards - so that there is evidence that their FCPX marketing and branding is off-target.

If enough of us raise a ruckus, then Apple will have to acknowledge our dissent - versus blindly accepting and trusting that their products will fit our workflows. The best and most innovative technologies have been the ones that fit into our (consumers) lives -- the worst technologies are the ones where we have to change our lives to fit the technology.

FCPX is the latter.

Let's keep 1-star rating it and spread the word that FCPX is not a professional solution - let's save our fellow creative professionals from making the same mistakes we did buy purchasing FCPX on false promises.

FCP -- RIP 2011

This software is a HUGE mistake calling itself Final Cut Pro. It has nothing to do with Final Cut Pro, it is iMovie plus at best. I too have reached out to Apple and got the same bounce around between the "app" store and the "on-line store". I was told I would get a reply within 24 hours and it is past that point now. All I want is my money back! Even just credit to use in itunes would be acceptable. I have been using FCP professionally since version 2 and cannot believe the backwards turn it has made with this X version.

Jun 22, 2011 11:14 AM in response to Dan Hyman

I too edit in the professional broadcast world and cannot believe the backwards steps Apple has taken. For many, many years I have defended and promoted apple products. This release is the worst thing I have ever seen Apple do. EVER. We are not able to use it in our workflow and will therefore stay with FCP 7. Here's hoping Apple wakes up and treats the professional community with more respect. After all we spend the most money on Apple products.

Jun 22, 2011 11:35 AM in response to stevo_chang

stevo_chang,

It's good to know that we can have a real conversation without being called names likeKenneth0923 did.

I respectfully disagree with your take on FCPX. I think it is utterly important to make Apple notice what shortcomings you find with the software and what you believe would make it work for you. These maybe in line with Apple's strategy or not, but there are ways to do it. I believe many have really overreacted to this and are not being helpful by the way they point out things.

Our FCP7 works just as good as it did when we bought it, and in the meantime we can help mold this to better suit our needs without having to go back to an application that as good as it is it had come to a dead end.

I believe it is a Pro application with a great future. Here is to the birth of FCPX and hoping it doesn't stop to get better every time.

Jun 22, 2011 11:35 AM in response to Dan Hyman

so, let me get this straight.

you run your entire business with FCP.

you bought a new version of FCP, sight unseen and without complete certainty that it would satisfy the needs of your business?

to me, it jus tseems as though you didn't really do your job vetting the requirements of your business against the features of the software.

next time, keep your wallet in your pocket, get to an Apple Store and try it out (or wait for some reviews), and then make your purchasing decision. in this case, i don't think Apple is under any obligation to return your money.

Jun 22, 2011 11:39 AM in response to scott nichol

Actually Apple must refund! Because Apple didn't offer the possibility to test and they positioned a product as a successor which means that all the functionality commonly used must be in that product. Otherwise you are misleading the customers; Which Apple just did!

I will get my $345 back trust me!

Apple has overhyped a product as the successor of FCP 7 (which is not even for sale anymore as today on their site) and it does only do about 20% of FCP7!
