Safari does not let me log into website.

Hello.

I am using Safari 5.0.5 and Mac OS X 10.6.7. I am able to visit and peruse through www.completecurriculum.com using Safari, Firefox and Chrome.

I have an account and need to be able to log into my account and view pdf's and save them for my daughter's schoolwork.

The problem? I cannot log in to my account using Safari or Chrome on my iMac. I CAN log in on my husband's MacBook Pro, but, I need to be able to use my iMac.

I CAN use Firefox to log in on my iMac, however, once logged in, I cannot view pdf's in the browser. I get the message that my browser does not support pdf's. I have searched several sites and tried different plugins, but to no avail. Very frustrated as I have wasted several days trying to get this to work on my iMac.

Have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled: Safari and Adobe. Have already seen this link and tried several of the approaches: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328233.html.

I would really like to be able to use Safari on my iMac to login AND view pdf's. Or be able to use Firefox to login AND view pdf's...basically, I just want my computer to work like I know it should.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Since the problem exists for multiple browsers.

Open Keychain Access /Applications / Utilities

Select Passwords on the left. Delete the keychain for; completecurriculum

Now go back to Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab.

Make sure: User names and passwords is selected.

Try logging into that site now. You should be prompted to save your login data to a new keychain, click Yes when prompted.

For the PDF issue. Select MacintoshHD from the Sidebar in a Finder window. Open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.

Move the PDF Browser Plug-in and any Adobe plugins to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari.

Hi Carolyn...

Thanks for writing! I followed the instructions exactly and here is what happened:

completecurriculum was nowhere to be found in Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access. I found two other keychain passwords that were causing us trouble for our internet and deleted those, but, the entire window of keychain info ended up being deleted instead of just the two incorrect router keychain info.

I did go to Safari/Preferences and selected the Autofill tab. I selected usernames and passwords. There was nothing listed in the username and password pane.

I did go back and try to log in and this is what came up:

Would you like to save this password?

To review or remove passwords you have saved, open Safari preferences, and then click AutoFill.

Never, Not Now, Yes are choices.

I clicked on Yes and then another window comes up and says that there is no keychain for my email address. Cancel or Reset to Default. So I reset to Default.

I am unable to move the PDF Browser Plugin to the trash and have no Adobe plugins. The PDF Browser is "in" the browser bar on Firefox and I am unable to find a way to remove it. I have MacKeeper and have tried removing it through the Wise Uninstaller...but, it is not removing it.

So...I am still unable to log into Safari and Chrome and am still unable to view PDF's in Firefox.

It seems like this is such a mess...don't know how or why it happened...still frustrated.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again for your time...

MacKeeper is the source of your problems. Check their site for uninstall instructions.

There aren't any Mac viruses, but if you feel it necessary to have a/v software installed on your Mac, use either Sophos or ClamXav instead. Both are free.

Free Antivirus for Mac - Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Edition

Apple - Downloads - Networking & Security - ClamXav

Hi Carolyn...

I know that MacKeeper isn't the source of the problem. I have had this issue since we moved from the US to Germany in March.

Even if I am unable to remove the PDF plugin...it still doesn't address why I cannot login to my account via any browser and why I am not able to view PDF's in any browser.

Thanks so much for sharing...still have to figure this all out. Cannot figure out why it works perfectly on the MacBook and not the iMac. My iMac was purchased new last Dec., which is why I can't figure out what is going on.

Is there any other problems that you can think of as to why things might not be working?

Thanks again for all your help. Would love to have this conquered by the weekend :-)

Hi Chris...

I changed the DNS numbers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and deleted the original DNS number. I still am not able to login to certain web accounts via Safari. Everything still works fine for logging into Firefox, but, still cannot view any pdf's in browser.

Have uninstalled MacKeeper. Will be installing ClamXav today. I also now have this Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2 that my husband downloaded and even though I dragged the .dmg file to the trash...I cannot remove this icon from my desktop...it is listed directly under the Mac HD in Finder, but, it is greyed out. Have not been able to delete this icon either.

Thanks for your help. Still can't figure out why after following all given advice, I am still having issues.

Still open to suggestions.

Danke!

Amy
