iphone 4 video recording but no audio...

Hi,

I am a long-term user of Apple products and generally know how to trouble-shoot.

But, my iPhone has recently stopped recording audio when recording video when using the Camera App.

All other audio recording (talking on the phone, memo recording etc) is totally fine, so I don't think it's a problem with the microphone.

I have tried to search but am finding the new discussion interface to be totally useless in returning relevant "conversations"...

Anyway, if anyone can offer ideas as to possible issues/problems I'd be most appreciative.

ThanksQ

🙂

Hey . . .

Yes. Unfortunately I am also experiencing a similar problem with my iPhone 4. It records the video fine but the audio isn't audible anymore. It used to be fine before but the camera recordings now barely have any audio on 'em. It's neither because i cover the upper mic (or somethig) nor because i didn't update the software. I have also updated the software( i.e 4.3.5 now) It's still the same. Yes, a couple of days before it started working fine i.e. the audio recorded was audible and pretty normal then but that was for just a few hours, it's back like that again.

I still have the warranty i.e 'till October '11.

I am currently in Pakistan. I also called the Apple's technical support guy in USA and told him the whole thing he seemed to be unaware about the problem.

I am confused. What shall i do now?

Any help or suggestion . . . ?

i also got the same problem. i rebooted the phone by pressing the top button until the slider appeared and tunring if off and on again, the sound via the camera and voice memos was restored. the problem occurs due to use of skype or other applications where audio is involved. when i used skype and then afterwards reverted to voice memo, it would not play the sound. the speaker tab at the voice playback screen was dimmed and the play icon was only rotating as if to fetch someting. the cam sound also goes away. i need to reboot the phone each time i use skype or other sound applications, like i Quran.

Hi Apple,

I have the same problem. I tried restoring my iphone and it still doesn't work. No audio while playing the recorded video. I am also encountering that while calling when i click the speaker button, the other line cannot hear me... I dont know if the problem is related but while doing a voice memo, it works well. Kindly advise on the troubleshooting techniches to be done.

Hi,

I took my phone back to the Apple Store and it was replaced.

Just so you know — on the iPhone 4 the video microphone is not the same as the call microphone. The video microphone is the tiny hole at the top immediately to the right of the earphone jack. I think it can fill up with gunk after a while.

If your phone is still in warranty perhaps you could try to get a replacement.

OK...Try this, it just worked for me...

1. Get some headphones and plug em in

2. Play sum tunes on ur phone and ensure you can hear them thru the phones

3. adjust volume and when you see the volume bar, set it to the very middle (just for clarity)

4. Unplug de phones

5. You should see the volume bar jump to the left - adjust it and hey presto!

I figure I managed to mute it by accident, but for some reason the volume bar for the internal speakers and expternal speakers are two different things.

Hope that helps out there. If it does please check out my new web site, I would appreciate the feedback on how it looks.
