UPDATING UNLOCKED PHONE (ORIGINAL OWNER)

Hi...

The iPhone was mine and a person from my office suggested this other phone. I took her advice. NOT a good idea - the phone I bought was an LG and I already had the iPhone 3G. Stupid mistake, should have kept my iPhone. It was a better phone. Long story short - I just had it unlocked -but now the fellow said I can use it as telephone and text message but can not upgrade it to any newer version. Otherwise it will lock? I have an iMac and put the USB connection to it, as I wanted to download my photos and music. All of my pictures and music were deleted when they apparently unlocked my phone? It states it has old software, so do I download it as a "new phone'? What will happen to it? I bought the phone outright at the beginning and thought it was 3 years old but it was only 2.5 years old, so I had 6 month contract still on it. I dished out $350.00 for the cancellation fee that I was charged. I just want to get my phone back in working order. Any suggestions. HELP. Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion. I still have it. I meant to say it was disabled for 7 months as I purchased this LG phone. Today, I had the iPhone unlocked, but when I put the USB to it to my iMac, it stated that the software was old and could not be download, I was to either click to the new phone, but did not know if I should do this. Because the fellow told me that I could not update the phone, so I am confused...right now.

How did you unlock it? If you unlocked it using an illegal software then there is nothing apple or the phone complany will do for you. If you are in the states there is no such thing as a carrier unlocked phone sold here and AT&T will not unlock it for you. The guy is right. You cannot update the phone unless you want it relocked back to AT&T because the new software will undo any changes you did to the phone.

I was originally with Rogers in Canada when I first purchased my iPhone 3G. When I bought the LG Shine model, I had gone to Telus., so when the fellow removed the sims card from the LG model and inserted it into my iPhone. I am now with Telus with my iPhone. BTW, I went to a store to have it 'unlocked'. A friend of mine said this is what she did with her Blackberry.

I tested it out and it works - but guess I am out of luck about downloading any of my pictures, and music to my iPhone as it will go probably into a locked mode. Live and learn I guess through trial and error. Should have stayed with Rogers and I would have had all of my apps. Thanks for your e-mail though. At least, the iPhone is a better phone than the LG. The LG will be sitting in a box until my contract is up and I'll purchase a newer iPhone. Planning to get the iPad3 when it comes out in 2012, but that sort of screws me big time with my phone if it can not download to the iPad3. Grrrrrr - ...

Appreciate your help. Thanks a million.
