Updated to 10.6.8, now I can't print

Have run applejack, reset printing system & reinstalled printer (FujiXerox 5065II with Fiery RIP), but the print Queue just keeps pausing. The error_log gives this: printer-state-message="/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed"

Does anyone have a similar problem or found a workaround?

thanks.

There is NO DOUBT .. the problem with ALL printers involved is caused by the latest MAC OS X 10.6.8 UPDATE ..

Tried now to print in my HP CLJ 1515n .. using my daughters MacBook white still with 10.6.7 .. worked fine .. perfect.

So APPLE-Folks .. just fix this problem .URGENT . still this weekend !!!

I don´t want to see anymore this lausy text ..

/usr/libexec/cups/backend/dnssd failed

SOLVED!

The solution proposed by velocius worked for me too! Go back to your 10.6.7. "socket" file stored by Time Machine and get it back to the referred folder.

HOWEVER: the "socket" file posted by velocius is unfortunately wrong :-) It's actually the 10.6.8 version, dated April 2011. The 10.6.7 version is dated January 2011. So: use the 10.6.7 version stored by Time Machine prior to 23/06/2011.

I didn't even bother to restart, reset printing system, remove printers, nothing just copy over the newer file with the older file. You will need administrator access. In my Mac mini Server I even had to log on as root to do it, for some reason a normal administrator didn't work.

I've had the same problem with one of our mac's that was upgraded today--spent half the day trying everything listed above before reading this thread and a thread on Xerox's website. Its strange that we get the message when sending to either a Xerox 4110 or our Xerox Doc 700, but not when printing to our Nuveras. I'll downgrade back to 10.6.7 on Monday -- wasted enough of my day on this---although its interesting to see how many this has happened to and how quickly we all hit the web looking for answers....maybe Apple will move as quickly as we all have and a patch will be available soon!

Same problem here. I installed the 10.6.8 combo on three computers and now none of them can print to our Fuji Xerox network printers.

I have tried resetting printing subsystem, repair permissions, re apply combo, deleted all my printers, reintsalled printer drivers, tried generic printer driver, tried reverting to the previous socket ( /usr/libexec/cups/backend/socket), but NOTHING WORKED.

The problem is still the same. I attempt to print, the job goes into the print queue and the print queue pauses.

.. and workes although fine using TIME MACHINE ..

just go and find socket-file how velocius described (either use Shift + Option + G or from the Finder menu Go - > Go to Folder and type /usr/libexec/cups/backend) then start you Time Machine and go back before you updated your Mac OS ...

The easiest way to get back to work and PRINTING .. 🙂

Updated to 10.6.8, now I can't print
