Update to 10.6.8 broke my optical audio - any help?

Has anybody posted the problem as a bug to be fixed by Apple? I mean, I'm not sure if their engineers are reading with us...

I only know that for 10.6.8 there were developers who marked it as a bug (and there is the fix right now...)

I repoprted it as a bug, and pointed back to this discussion. It was a known bug when I reported it.

The 10.6.8 fix did NOT, i repeat NOT fix my problem, wich is clearly the 10.6.8 audio bug.

I can confirm that the FIX works with 10.6.8 version on MAC MINI 2009 - connected via TOSLINK to a MARANTZ SR 6004 Receiver. Now all is working like before - no more problems with Digital Sound .

I can confirm that 10.6.8 v1.1 fixed my audio problems on a 2010 MacMini connected through HDMI. Full DTS and DD working with Stereo working after!

Make you sure either download the Combo update, or clear your Software Update so you apply the latest V1.1 patch and that it's not the old 10.6.8 sitting in your system update download cache.

Just hit the regular download and wait 15secs and then it's yours at only 1.5 Mb. I used this file and it fixed my problem, so it's a legit file.

Just to confirm, this bug also exists on a brand new 2011 Mac mini with Lion pre-installed.

Confirmed, the new 10.6.8 software update solved the problem on my 2010 Mac Mini.

For me, Lion will have to wait untill an Apple fix is released for 10.7.

I too confirm the new Supplemental Update to 10.6.8 released today by Apple fixed this loss of audio problem I was having when using Plex .. all is good 🙂

The Supplemental Update to 10.6.8 fixed my audio problems on a 2009 24" iMac.

Bad luck for me. I had the optical out sound error since 10.6.8 update on my Mac Mini (end 2009), so when Lion came out I directly updated my OS. Sound bug still there! Now I understand that last night fix for Snow Leopard does fix the optical audio bug.. 😮!! Hopefully they fix it soon in Lion as well. Any info they will?

Still get audio dropout/skip every 30 seconds after applying the supplement update to 10.6.8. I can see after the update the AppleHDA.kext version is still 2.0.5 and the file size is 12.1MB(same as the file in original 10.6.8 update?). Downloading 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 now. If this does not fix the problem, will re-install the OS then update to 10.6.7.

right? what the H are they doing updating SL before Lion??? major issues at apple??
