Update to 10.6.8 broke my optical audio - any help?

Hi everyone,

i have just upgrade my system to 10.6.8 and everything work fine except my audio thru optical output. I have pluged Logitech Z-5500 Digital to my MacBook Pro's optical sound output and my problem now is that, when i play some HD movie vith DolbyDigital AC3 ore DTS, it plays fine but when i stop watching movie and close VLC, no other sounds play.. no itunes, no standard stereo movies ect.. it plays only AC3 od DTS sound track.. so when i want to listen some music, i must restart MBP and it plays again everything until i open again movie with 5.1 track....

any solution to fix it?

thanks in advance

Same here:

Mac Pro (Mid2010) -> ATI 5870 -> miniDisplay w/ Audio -> HDMI -> Denon AVR-1911

Until and including 10.6.7 everything worked perfectly, but now I experience audio dropouts every 3-5 seconds.

Interestingly, the indicators on the Denon AVR display for PCM/DIG/HDMI input signals blink, which I'd interpret as a loss- of- sync on the interface. Looks like a serious bug in the driver to me.

Same Problem here: MacPro 5.1 after updating to 10.6.8

I was listening to some music in iTunes. Next in line was a movie from iTunes. When I stopped playing the movie and clicked on the next song in iTunes, all of a sudden optical audio was gone. When switching to display audio sound plays back well. However, no way to switch back to optical audio. DVD Audio also does not playback on optical audio.

I have not yet reseted my MacPro in order to find out if this would temporarily fix the problem.

Yes, the 10.6.7 version of AppleHDA.kext is 1.9.9f12...

and which is yours latest system backup timemachine show i think only when you tried to restore OS X from TimeMachine backup.. otherwise you can go to System prefences -> Software update -> Instaled software and compare the date of installing 10.6.7 update with the date your latest TimeMachine backup...
