Update to 10.6.8 broke my optical audio - any help?

Hi everyone,

i have just upgrade my system to 10.6.8 and everything work fine except my audio thru optical output. I have pluged Logitech Z-5500 Digital to my MacBook Pro's optical sound output and my problem now is that, when i play some HD movie vith DolbyDigital AC3 ore DTS, it plays fine but when i stop watching movie and close VLC, no other sounds play.. no itunes, no standard stereo movies ect.. it plays only AC3 od DTS sound track.. so when i want to listen some music, i must restart MBP and it plays again everything until i open again movie with 5.1 track....

any solution to fix it?

thanks in advance

still have problems with DTS and DD 5.1 with 10.7.1 on my MacMini (mid 2010), too. VLC doesn't play sound on digitaly output. Strange behaviour in XBMC: sometimes stereo comes back after playing a DTS or DD encoded movie and sometimes not. The version number of the kext (2.11) is the same as before in 10.7, only another date of change (2011-07-25). I will do a clean install of Lion (again) an check, if that helps (i guess not).

Or do VLC and XBMC need an update now because of the new api?

10.7.1 bruke my working audio. Mac mini (mid 2011) was working perfectly, but after 10.7.1 update, DTS is no longer working. Actually sounds like rear channel audio is sent to front stereo speakers. I am using HDMI to TV, and optical to reciever.

By disabling DTS and AC3 output, I get stereo working.

What is Apple doing??? In 10.6.7 everything was working perfectly.

Same here, early 2009 MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.1 hooked up to a Z-5500 via optical out.

When VLC is set to use SPDIF when possible; I get no DTS sound whatsoever, Dolby Digital tracks are somehow decoded by VLC and sent as a stereo PCM stream.

When VLC is NOT set to use SPDIF; every source is output as a stereo PCM stream.

I hate to say this but this (or anything similar) never happened to me on any Windows machine, where you can roll back to a previous WORKING driver. Because why "fix" something that ISN'T broke?

I still have a problem with 10.6.8 Supplemental update when playing encoded MP4 or DVD's using Apple DVD player and / Quicktime on Mac Mini2,1 using Audio optcal out to Yamaha DSP AX757SE, certain portions of a movie soundtrack will cause the amp to go into standby. This all worked fine in 10.6.7 which i have now rolled back to. I'm guessing the optical inputs are being overloaded by the Mac's output and the Amp is shutting down to protect the speakers.
