Same problems here. Hoping for a fast fix.

    Same here:

    Mac Pro (Mid2010) -> ATI 5870 -> miniDisplay w/ Audio -> HDMI -> Denon AVR-1911

Until and including 10.6.7 everything worked perfectly, but now I experience audio dropouts every 3-5 seconds.

Interestingly, the indicators on the Denon AVR display for PCM/DIG/HDMI input signals blink, which I'd interpret as a loss- of- sync on the interface. Looks like a serious bug in the driver to me.

Same here with Mac mini (Mid 2010) and Pioneer VSX-1021K!

I'm using EyeTV and TV-Stations with Dolby Digital are working just fine, but TV-Stations with stereo have no Sound!

Going back to the appleHDA.ktext from 10.6.7 solved the Problem for me!

    Thanks TimeMachine!!!

Same Problem here: MacPro 5.1 after updating to 10.6.8

I was listening to some music in iTunes. Next in line was a movie from iTunes. When I stopped playing the movie and clicked on the next song in iTunes, all of a sudden optical audio was gone. When switching to display audio sound plays back well. However, no way to switch back to optical audio. DVD Audio also does not playback on optical audio.

I have not yet reseted my MacPro in order to find out if this would temporarily fix the problem.

Restoring of AppleHDA.kext out of a 10.6.7 backup solved my problems too. Thank you, yomamma_de

O.K. it seems to be obvious for everyone except me: what is appleHDA.ktext (or appleHDA.kext?) and where can I find it?

  • Jan Nechyba Level 1 (0 points)

Hi shorafix, you can find appleHDA.kext in Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

just select it, start timemachine a restore old kext from date when you have 10.6.7 installed..

Has anyone tried installing the updated combo?

I see at least one has, but it didn't help.

I've got no problem with digital audio on my Macbook Pro and I'm running Perian.

    Hi!

I have exactly the same problem, and it makes me go crazy, because I want to watch TV normally!!

I am not really sure, if my last TM-Backup was with 10.6.7 or 10.6.6 - how can I find out?

    Thanks in advance!

    Stefan

Yes, i tried first instaling combo update...  there is no problem with digital audio until you passthrough AC3 or DTS sound track directly to receiver.. since then  stereo digital audio is dead..

Hi Stefan, the AppleHDA should be the same in 10.6.6 and 10.6.7.. (it its version 1.9.9)... just locate in /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext , start TimeMachine , select the previous backed up appleHDAkext file and pres CMD+I to know which version it is...

  • Stefan Sigmund Level 1 (0 points)

-> Jan Nechyba: Thank you. The version is "1.9.9f12", that says the Finder, as well as the plist in the package. Is this good? If so, then fine.

But I still would like to know, which system version the last backup was, where can I find this information?

  • Jan Nechyba Level 1 (0 points)

Yes, the 10.6.7 version of AppleHDA.kext is 1.9.9f12...

and which is yours latest system backup timemachine show i think only when you tried to restore OS X from TimeMachine backup.. otherwise you can go to System prefences -> Software update -> Instaled software and compare the date of installing 10.6.7 update with the date your latest TimeMachine backup...

  • Stefan Sigmund Level 1 (0 points)

Thank you very much! Now I know it was 10.6.7 … hope the kext will solve the problem!
