The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to start

Hello Guys,

My iOS is updated (iOS 5 Beta 6), and my iTunes is too updated (iTunes 5 Beta 60).

I can't sync my device with iTunes.

All stuff is updates... What can i do?

my solution was:

sudo killall iTunes
sudo killall iTunesHelper
sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app
sudo rm -rf ~/Library/iTunes
sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
sudo rm /Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
sudo rm /Library/Receipts/*iTunes*.pkg
sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
sudo rm -rf /Library/iTunes
sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.iTunes.*

and then reinstall itunes 😉

Yeah..

The solution is install some version beta of iOS on iTunes.

I just upgraded to iOS5 and iTunes says "the phone can't be synced because the sync session failed to start"

I've got my sms'es, calendars and photos but lost all my apps and contacts that can't seem to sync.

I'm on iPhone 4 and My iTunes is 10.5.0.142

I have this on my iPad2, using iTunes in a Windows 7 VM. It appears to have fully upgraded the iPad to iOS5, everything appears to be there, but it always says "The iPad can't by synced because the sync session failed to complete". I also notice that my "other" data usage went from near zero to 17G or something like that. So something is stuck on the iPad....

Sorry, I was on the wrong thread, my error was "failed to finish". But the resolution there might be of help here. In iTunes, go in and disable photo syncing and perhaps ringtones, etc. Then sync, then re-enable them again. It fixed the problem I had. Good luck.

I had the same problem.. all i did was backed up my phone, then restored it. everything is back on my phone and it is syncing everything now... so far so good. 🙂

I had this problem, "

The iPhone could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish". All i had to do was verify my itunes account via email and tht sorted the sync process. I still lost all my games and most apps :/

Did you try redownloading your iTunes purchased apps?

As far as I know, whenever you buy anything from them, it's always there.

I've had this happen to me when I changed computers and re-synced on a new notebook and lost my apps. Just go here and try it:

I just tried re syncing today and got my apps and all back. Just that lostbthe folder arrangements but did not lose anything.

Not sure how but it's all okay now

I got same message when trying to update my 3g to a iphone 4. I simply added a 1 to the Iphone name or change name completely and then sync worked.

I had all kinds of new and interesting things happening to my music, ringtones and photos with this. While the phone was still misbehaving, I set my synch preferences (photos, podcasts, music etc .) to how I wanted them to be. I then tried to synch. Of course, I had the same annoying message but the phone had backed up. I then restored my phone to factory settings (via iTunes). When prompted to restore from the recent backup, I went ahead. It synched perfectly and has done so ever since. I can't explain this but I am glad that the equivalent of 'turn it off and on again' seems to have worked. Good luck.

I have the same error message/problem with my iPad 1, trying to sync photos with a Windows PC. Tried all the suggestions above - none worked. Found a completely different solution.

When syncing photos I had "All folders" selected. Changed this to "Selected Folders". Then tried selecting one (small) folder: sync successful! Then added a few more and sync worked again - however selecting all folders (manually) failed.

The problem I saw seems to occur if you have too many photos. By selecting a few folders at a time, they can be added OK. Eventually I was able to switch back to "All folders" and Sync now works OK. The nature of the problem seems to be the iTunes software timing out if you try to add too many photos at once: it seems to then "stick" at the message "Waiting for changes to be applied" and eventually it just returns the error message "...could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish". Adding folders a few at a time seems to solve it.
