Having problems with Mail after 10.6.8 update?

Thanks for this - did not work though - still crashes when trying to download messages from server. But it appears I've got more issues than that - Safary also crashes (where as Chrome works) and also the app store application crashes when clicking the 'updates' button. This Mac Mini (Intel Dual Core 2GHz) has had a few issues in the past and it does occasionally not start up - displaying the 'circle with bar' sign or 'folder with ?' sign - so maybe it has some dodgy memory or something - although it passed the hardware test. I tried to go back to the original Snow Leopard version, that's when I noticed that the DVD drive in my Mac Mini is not working any more! It does not recognice any DVDs / CDs. I can't update to Mac OS X Lion either because the app store application crashes as well. I am completely stuck now! I've got a time machine backup drive - but I don't think I can restore from that without booting from a DVD. Any suggestions greatly appreaciated.

Hi, I have a different problem with running Mail app on my MacBook Pro 2011 i7, after some updates app will not even start 😟 I just get this info:

I didn't have this problem. By now I updated to Lion, which has a great mail app.

It keeps asking me for a password, but nothing has changed. I add the password and it continues to pop up. Any suggestions?
