10.6.8 Internet/Safari Response time Very Slow

Just installed MACOS 10.6.8 and Safari as well as anything connecting to the Internet is extremely slow. Checked ISP and the speed is fine. Verified access via my IPAD through the same network is fine. Safari takes forever to make connections, Mail is the same way. Checking for software update takes 20+ minutes. Once a connection is made response time seems to be fine, however, moving from Link to Link is dreadfully slow.

Create a new User... go to System Preferences > Accounts > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test speed in this new account, if it functions normally, the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide. Then we can take the next steps.

There is also an issue with Safari whereas turning your cookies off doesn't actually work anymore. Even if you click accept cookies "Never" it still does. I called apple and reported the problem but nobody else has realized it yet. I diagnosed the problem on another computer and got proof positive it was from the 10.6.8 update by turning cookies off before and after the update.

anyone else notice this?

- happened to both my 2010 and 2011 macbook pros. i updated the second one to test if 10.6.8 was the culprit and surely enough it accepted all cookies directly after the 10.6.8 update.

it also would occasionally delete my address and search window from toolbar when i entered a search and i would have to then go to "Customize Toolbar" to put it back up there.

Called apple and reported the problem on 6/25 and they said they hadn't heard anything.

Same problem with my MacBook Pro late 2008 - on my home network, but not at my work network, strangely. In both locations the wireless network is provided by an AirPort Extreme connected to a DSL-connection. I have tried to reset my home router, but, as none of the other computers, 2 iPhones and 1 iPod Touch are affected, i have realized the problem must be contained to my MacBook Pro. I have now downgraded to 10.6.7 - reinstalled Snow Leopard from the disc and applied the 10.6.7 Combo update - and things are back to normal.

I shall wait for the release of Lion - very very soon, hopefully - before upgrading to 10.6.8.

I did finally solve the problem now by using my router I got from my ISP solely as a modem and make a PPPoE connection via my Time Capsule. Before that I let the crappy router from my ISP do the connection and my TC was just acting as an WLAN access point.

I guess the TC is smarter then the other device and knows how to deal with ipv6 from 10.6.8 stuff correctly.

I wish I've found this solution a week a go, It would've saved me tons of hours and frustration.

After upgradging to 10.6.8, my friefox became a fireturtle, very slow. Long story short, even after upgrading to Lion, still had the same problem,

I've seen a solution here on the forums that indicating changing the DNS would resolve the problem,

So I went to:

1- System Preferences.

2- Network, then click on Advance.

3- DNS, Then click on the + button below it and add 8.8.8.8 which is google DNS server, save and try Firefox again.

It was back to normal, the IP address was there before the change was 192.168.1.1 which is my router. Changing it solved this problem. I wish I can find whoever posted that solution to send him/her a virtual hug.

I have also had the same slow internet problem after updating to 10.6.8.

However I found the problem to be with Motion (thanks to the earlier post that tipped me off to this as I had also installed this at the same time).

I solved it by removing Motion from my "allowed incoming connections" in my firewall.

1. Open System Preference > Security

2. Open Advanced (will need to enter your Password)

3. Delete Motion from the list of Allowed Incoming Connections

This immediately fixed the problem for me!
