Log in loop after update to 10.6.8
Hi, After updating to 10.6.8 on my iMac 27" 2.93 I'm in a login loop. Booting gets as far as the dock appearing then I get a blue screen and am back on the log in screen. Any ideas on how to resolve this? TIA

Restart, holding down the SHIFT key, and report back with the results.
Running 10.6.8
Hi ,
i have exactly the same issue.
iMac 27" , i5 with 12 GB Ram
After the login with the user who has made the update, i get the blue screen and the the system bring back the login screeen.
I tried the shift key tip.
After booting, the system starts up in the safe mode.
After a second attempt to login, i could login.
I got the normal desktop without a dock and a network connection.
I rebooted the system again , and it is the same as before, no login possible ?
Should we do some thing when we logged in with the safe mode ?
regards
harry
Thanks for the response but no dice baltwo. I had already tried a safe boot but I tried again as you suggested because I have subsequently re-installed 10.6.4 from my DVD but I still have the same problem.
Hi Harry, at least you've proved to me that it's unlikely to be a ram problem as I've recently gone to the full 16 GB.
Had I been able to boot in safe mode I would have tried installing the combo upgrade though thinking about it, as previously mentioned I have reverted to 10.6.4 using my instal DVD and that hasn't helped.
I wish now that I'd got around to backing up before updating though I haven't had a problem after updating before with three other Macs.
Hi Chris, thanks for the response.
Is this a two-stage fix that you're suggesting as I did repair permissions after reverting to 10.6.4 but have not tried resetting the PRAM.
Thanks
I have the same problem and the solution to reset PRAN and eather run disk utility (repare disk and repare disk permissions) did not work for me.
And i need to work :p
Thanks and sorry for my bad english...
OK Chris, I reset the PRAM and repaired permissions. I get a message
Warning SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired
Can this be part of the pronlem as the log on loop problem is still there?
Thanks
Do you guys also have Parallels installed?
Yes i do, and it was update recently!!
Reset the SMC, boot with the Apple Hardware Test program (restart holding down the D key), run the extended tests, and, then, download and run Rember.
Running 10.6.8
Baltwo, i ithink the problem is not with hardware, but with the update itself. Any sugestions?
I beta-tested the update and don't recall any such issues.
Running 10.6.8
Post the latest windowserver crash log from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.
can i get these logs using root account, because with it I can make the login. The problem is with the account that i used to make de update. thanks.
