No bluetooth available 10.6.8 Macbook Pro 5,5

I have just purchased a Macbook pro 5,5, and installed 10.6.8. My bluetooth isnt available at all. Theres a bluetooth logo in the menu bar with a zigzag line through it. In system profiler it says "No information found" and system preferences doesn't even have a bluetooth option. Help me please.

If you let it, this will drive you bonkers. My wife's MacBook loses its Bluetooth occasionally. For whatever reason, this affects the Mac going to sleep. It bothers me more than it does her. After dinking around with it for over a year, I've come to the conclusion there is no one solution. Do these things in the following order, starting with the easy stuff:

1. Log out and log back in

2. Reboot the Mac

3. Turn the Mac completely off and let it sit for a few minutes

4. Run the Apple Hardware Test (Bluetooth seems to come back after the test is run more times than not)

If none of this works, then just turn it off and let it sit overnight.

If you don't do anything, it will eventually come back on.

Have a nice day.

Hello:

I am not trying to be argumentative, but why would you expect Apple to provide a firmware fix for a computer you bought "second hand?" The problem is not an Apple hardware issue (and I do not work for Apple nor am I an apologist for the corporation).

It seems apparent to me that the computer you purchased has a faulty Bluetooth module. Perhaps you can return it for credit.

Barry

P.S. FYI, missing Bluetooth is not a common issue and is usually corrected by an SMC reset.
