Matt, it worked for me. You have to delete iclouds but save to iphone, then go back in settings icloud and it will ask for email. But just so others know you should go to itunes and change your email address there and it will just sync with icould.
Roscoe23, a *huge* gold star for this...I am *so* not an Apple fan and spent many frustrating hours trying to find the solution to this problem. I see absolutely no logic whatsoever in the solution *but it worked*! Thank you thank you thank you...
Hi Rrobles,
I had the same issue after updating to iOs6, kept getting errors about my icloud loggin when it was using an old apple id, so i deleted the icloud account and chose the option to save to iphone. However, a note (with really important information) that I had open and just edited was deleted. Nothing else (not contacts, pics, no other notes, nothing) was deleted. I tried going to icloud.com, going to gmail site (since gmail was my defaul account for notes), and it's nowhere to be found. I have spent the last two days on the phone with apple suppor and went to the apple store also. no one can figure out why that note (or anything for that matter) would be deleted. Moral: be very careful about deleting icloud account
...Your icloud is a MAC/PC program.. Try this....: On your mac, ( I don't have a PC), Go to "icloud.com, then lower left corner, go to privacy policy, then scowl down about half way to "updating your preference' , select " Manage your account", log in, then - edit your icloud email.. After this . then re-sync you iphone.,, it will reset your email...your iphone/ icloud wiil reflect your new email...
hope this help someone.....JHH
Thanks Matt. Worked a treat for me with my new iPhone. Surprised the forum doesn't highlight your solution when it has so many likes.
My situation is that my Apple ID is my "primary email", and my iCloud ID is my me.com account. The configuration steps gave no option of setting a different iCloud ID. As you suggested, I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the iCloud > Settings page, clicked Delete and confirmed deletion of anything that had been syncd. Then I went back into iCloud settings and entered my me.com account. Everything is now working as it should. All done on the iPhone.
Of course forum doesn't highlight. Because people asking how to change email associated with iCloud account, but not how to change email in Apple ID.
Have the same issue, by the way. Have wrong iCloud email address (let's say wrong@icloud.com) associated with my primary Apple ID/iCloud account (let's say primary@mail.com).
Can't change it in any way.
All post above stated that I should delete iCloud acc from my device then change email in Apple ID and relogin in iCloud - people, you all suggesting to change Apple ID email (in my case I can actually change primary@mail.com as Apple ID to primary2@mail.com) but not the email associated with iCloud.
In my Apple ID settings I have primary@mail.com as primary email/Apple ID and wrong@icloud.com as Alternate Apple ID. Bad thing, that I'm not able to change or delete Alternate Apple ID in any way - there is no edit or delete buttons against this Alternate Apple ID (wrong@icloud.com).
I have some purchases on my Apple ID so I don't want to abandon it and create a completely new one to solve this issue. And I can't change or delete this dummy wrong@icloud.com address.
May be I've missed something in this thread, but I wasn't able to find solution (except advices to change primary email and delete icloud login than relogin again - which effectively changes Apple ID email but not the iCloud mail).
If anyone knows how to delete/unlink/change icloud email - please advice.
This is exactly the problem I have. I originally tried to set up iCloud on my wife's iphone on IOS 5. I was using MY AppleID and stupidly, when it prompted for the name of my new, free iCloud.com/me.com address, I entered my wife's name! duh. Now I am stuck with her email address as my alternate AppleID.. and there seems to be NO way to change this.. Arrrrgghhh...
Apple, why cannot I not delete or change this email address?
I have this problem too.
I had a .mac account years ago for awhile till it was discontinued, so my Apple ID is my old .mac email address and that's fine.
I never had an Apple Me account but somehow it has assigned a me.com address to me that isn't my address. The address looks like a first initial, last name, with a number at the end, like many people use. The trouble is its not my name. It's not my initial, not my last name, I don't know anyone with this name, and I have never used an address with that format.
So now the same address has been "reserved" for me as an iCloud.com address. I have no intention of using an address with someone else's name on it.
My gmail address is associated with my Apple ID so I get email. But I no idea where this me.com address came from, which is now my iCloud address, nor have I been able to change it.
Come on Apple! I'm not asking to change my Apple ID, I just want to change the email address you dreamed up for me that bears no resemblance to who I am.
Do not delete your @aol.com or @me.com on your iPhone. If you want to start using iCloud with your (@iCloud alias) as the primary email, just create a new alias and it will work. I just tried it and all me emails just mirrored from my existing @me.com account to my @iCloud account. It is much simple and avoid the hassle trying to recreate an account.
The email address I used to initially set up my iTunes account, I no longer used.
I updated iTunes & iCloud with my new email address, then deleted the iCloud account (which had me old email address as its log-in) from my iPhone, electing to 'KEEP DATA' on my iPhone.
I then set up a new account, typing over my old email address with my new one, input the password for iCloud & my account is back online with my new apple ID email address!
Thanks for all the tips folks!!
Yes this worked for me!
I first changed my login email in both iTunes & iCloud to my new email address, then I did the above in both Mail & iTunes on my iPhone, inputting my new email address 7 all's working fine now..!
Emails are stored on apples' servers. You calendar, contacts are stored in the cloud. I deleted my email account on my iPhone and it even ask if you want to keep a copy on you phone. I deleted everything and was able to download it again.
II was hitting the same issuue and the Apple website states to simply chang the From address to @icloud.com and everything will work. of course you have to do this for every outbound mail, so I checked the Mail applet and could NOT edit the email address as it is locked. SO, I removed my account and added back THIS TIME I used my @icloud.com account to sign in INSTEAD of my AppleID and it took the account and got me setup using my iCloud account instead of my @me.com address. SO it looks like the @icloud.com is not only an email alias but can also be used for authentication/logins as well.
Try this and see if it fixes your issue. I was surprised I could use my alias to login when creating a new icloud account, but hey it worked, whew!
Hope this helps

Virginia,
I'm writing to make sure that the solution you listed here addresses the problem I'm seeking a solution for. I want to change the email address that is tied to my iCloud account. (I know that I can create and change alias email addresses tied to my icloud account, but I want to delete the original email address that I created when I created my icloud account.)
I just want to delete this address because I created it in haste (not realizing that I could not change it), and I used a nickname that I do not like. It bugs me to have it associated with my account; I just want it gone.
Does this sound like the problem you had?
Thanks.
When I talked to Apple support, I was told that the first email account you create with Apple is your main account for everything and it can not be deleted. In my case, my original email address was @aol.com and that is what I have to iTunes, iPhone, etc. I don't use this account at all because I have created other aliases such as @icloud.com and @me.com. However, all these aliases are tied up to the parent account @aol.com and the parent cannot be deleted which is shows as my main account when I log in to iTunes.
The alternative is to stop using your primary account and direct all your emails to the alias account of your choice. How do you do that? Just point your email address as default to the alias of your choice and stop or delete the other accounts from your iPhone, PC or Mac. The parent email address will reside on the servers but you will at least stop using it. Apple might realized some day that this is a waste of email space. Hope this helps. The sort answer is NO.
